sunday i installed a purchased copy of windows 7 upgrade from vista. i had vista installed already and successfully fresh installed the 32 bit win 7. i did not know i could go from 32 bit vista or win 7 to 64 bit win 7 or i would have done that instead of fresh installing win 7 34 bit. the compatibility advisor from microsoft says my pc qualifies for 64 bit fresh install and showed i had no other issue to prevent this.

each time i put the 64 bit disc in, it does not recognize the os. even though everything i can find online says not only does my pc have the capability of 64 bit, it showed not one problem in the advisor everything was perfect. yet it will not clean install over the win 7 32 bit.

specs are as follows: hp pavillion a1710n / amd athlon 64x2 / dual core / 4 gigs ram / 320 hd, as i said everything on the upgrade advisor said i was perfect and only needed to do a fresh install.

i never knew i could do 64 bit version  in fresh install or i would have instead of the 32 bit version. why will it not go through the fresh install process as it did when i did the fresh install from vista to win 7 32 bit?

You need to boot the machine from the 64-bit Windows install disk.  The installer cannot work if you try to run it from inside a 32-bit Windows install, because the installer is a 64-bit software application.

Pop the disk in the drive, restart the machine, and press a key when prompted to boot from the DVD.

    Then choose 'Custom' install.
