Win 7 to Win 8 upgrade woes

I'm attempting to upgrade a Lenovo 64 bit W520 runing Win 7 Sp1 to Win 8 and I've tried maybe a million times and had no luck. I give it the product ID and it kerchunks away installing a new directory. It completes and that tells me, "Get that latest updates" and then it fails. Since I do this on a Lenovo, I have recieved no in formation. Everything is normal after the reboot and there's no indication that I am in the middle of a upgrade.
Since this is the lenovo, there's no indication am in the middle of anything. If I bring up the DVD again it takes me full circle. I have to an the Product ID and the update staets from scratch.
If if run the on disk executables they tell me that something has happened. Am getting the error very early in the process of updating. I'm sure the dvds are not bad.
I do have a back of the system before I started the installation and can start over if needed,

Hi,
Please refer this article to upgrade to Windows 8:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/upgrade-to-windows-8
I suggest to use upgrade assistant for compatibility first.
If you have any issue when upgrade Windows 8, check if any setup log exists:
(X = volume where failed install resides)
X:\Windows\
setupact.log and setuperr.logX:\$Windows.~BT\sources\panther\
setupact.log and setuperr.logX:\Windows\Panther\
setupact.log and setuperr.logFurthermore, I suggest to contact Windows 8 forum for further help:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/w8itpro
The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us.

Thank you leo. I didn't know it existed obviously or I would have never put the problem in a windows 7 thread. I have made the entry it's there.
