Windows 7 Ultimate incomplete installation with a black screen
- I have a Vista Ultimate workstation. Before upgrading to windows 7 i ran the Windows 7 upgrade advisor with no error or additional requirnments. However, the upgrade failed only at the very last stage so I decided to do a fresh install, deleted and foratted the partition and then booting from the Win 7 DVD. At the end of the insallation, the machine rebooted, I saw the Windows 7 screen for a minute or less and then a black screen. It seems that the monitor went to a sleep mode.
I tried to do a cold boot, pressed F8 for a safe mode but the message i got was that I cannot use safe mode until Windows 7 installation is complete.
I started all over again with a fresh install and after getting the black screen, waited for an hour just in case, to allow the installation to (perhaps) complete...same issue.
The computer in use: Motherboard: Nvida nForce 680i SLI, intel core 2 6600 at 2.4 GHz. HD 300 GB. SATA controller: Nvidia nForce 590/570/550 SATA.
Since i don't see any error throughout the installation, i am not sure what went wrong. is it the video driver ?
Thanks for any help.

- Thanks for your advice,
As it tuned out, i decided to put another video card and that did the trick! I didn't suspect the video card since it was compatible with Vista and the Upgrade Advisor didn't detect any problems...but just like you said, you cannot rely 100% on the upgade advisor....

Hi,
I do not think that the issue is caused by device drivers since Windows 7 installation cannot be completed even via clean install and you cannot log on Safe Mode. Please understand that in Safe Mode, all the device drivers and 3rd party services will be disabled.
This issue is more likely to be caused by hardware conflicts. Though Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor did not report any errors or additional requirements, it still cannot ensure that all the hardware devices on your computer are compatible with Windows 7.
At this point, I suggest unplugging all the unnecessary devices as well as Network connection and then retry to install Windows 7 to check the issue. In addition, I would like to confirm if your computer is an OEM machine. If so, it is recommended that you contact the computer manufacture to make sure that all the hardware such as motherboard, display card, and etc are compatible with Windows 7.
Good luck~
