  Hi,

  I would like suggest you try the following steps and check if they are helpful

  Step 1 :
  
  Try temporarily disabling your antivirus and see if you are then able to get the updates to download.
  
  Note : enable all security softwares once the issue is resolved.
  
  If it works, see if the maker has an update for your software that addresses this issue.
  
  
  Step 2 :
  
  Reset Windows Updates Components by running the fixit tool and check if that helps resolve the issue.

  Finally got it all sorted yesterday before reading your post.

  I downloaded Windows Fix It which twiddled a couple of things but said Windows Activation Update was needed as Windows wasn't entirely genuine (which it is). So I downloaded that but it came up with an error message 0xC8000247 for which I could find no useful suggestions on line.

  So I carried on looking through threads and re-visited the suggestion that Intel might be at fault. I had dismissed mentions of Intel RST being the reason as it wasn't installed and I'm not using RAID so dismissed RAID controllers. However, I ran Intel Driver Update Utility and it told me to install the latest RAID controller. I did and Windows update promptly started working again, with a mere 46 updates that all worked perfectly.

  It's been a long session to get it all fixed.

  I'm still getting a Windows Activation Update is needed message. Downloaded and ran it but nothing seems to have happened. It's still not quite right.
