    I have just installed Windows 7 32 bit and now none of my USB connections are being recognised. my computer specs are:

    http://www.acerdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_9301AWSMi_Laptop_LX.AWP0X.008/version.asp

    Before I installed Windows 7 everything worked fine on XP. I have 3 Maxtor Onetouch 4 external hard drives, a logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. Even my iphone isnt being found when i plug it in. I get no response from windows when I plug the USB's in. I can hear the external hard drives powering up so it isnt a power issue and I have swapped all of the USB connection leads about and it doesnt make any difference. I've tried all of my hard drives on my friends computer and they all work fine. Ive looked through the forums for answers but cannot seem to find any that work. I have been to the disk manager and device manager and they cant find the USB connections. Ive also been to the Maxtor/Seagate website and non of their walkthroughs seem to work or be aplicable to this scenario.

    Any help that you could give me would be greatly appreciated as I'm a student and really need to access these external hard drives along with my i-Phone etc (preferably on my own PC)

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

    Based on the current situation, you’d better contact the Acer Support for the BIOS and the motherboard drivers for Windows 7.

    Hi,

    I suggest you refer to the Acer Website to update the BIOS and the motherboard drivers for Windows 7 first.

    Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability.

    If it does not work, I also suggest you reinstall the USB Controllers.

    Reinstall USB controllers

    -----------------------------

    Use the Mouse

    ================

    First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:

    1. Click "Start" button, type “devmgmt.msc” (without quotation marks) in the “Search” bar and press "Enter". Click “Continue” if necessary.

    2. In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".

    3. Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".

    Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.

    Use the Keyboard

    ================

    First, please disconnect all USB devices. Then, go through the following steps:

    1. Press "Ctrl + Esc" to open the “Start” menu.

    2. Type “devmgmt.msc” in the Search bar and press "Enter". Click “Continue” if necessary.

    3. In Device Manger, press Tab and use "Up" and "Down" to move the highlight to "Universal Serial Bus Controllers".

    4. Press "Right" and expand it.

    5. Press "Down" to move to the first item and press "Delete" to remove it.

    6. Repeat the step 5 and uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers".

    Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all controllers automatically.

    What’s the result?

    Hi, i managed to do everything apart from installing new mother board drivers (because i couldnt find them anywhere on Acers website). Now when I plug in the external harddrives i get a noise from windows acknowledging that they have been plugged in. However when i try to find them in Computer the only avaliable hard drive is C:. in device manager however they are there but they have a yellow triangle with and exclamtion mark next to them. Three of the items under Universal Serial Bus Controllers have this sign next to them, they are: USB Composite device,  USB mass storage device, and USB Root Hub. When i click properties for these three subheading they all quote Code 19 as being the problem.

    Also when i turn the computer on now a box appears stating the following: The driver is blocked due to incapability issues
                                                                                                               Driver: NTI DriveBackup 4
                                                                                                               Publisher: NewTech Infosystems
                                                                                                               Location: Not Avaliable

    Windows is unable to find solutions to this problem when asked to.

    Sorry for all the trouble. Thanks again in advance

    Hi,

    You may temporarily uninstall NTI DriveBackup software to check the issue.

    If it does not work, I suggest you also perform the following steps.

    Delete the USB "Upper Filter" & "Lower Filter" Entry

    ==================================

    Before we go any further, please first backup the Registry.

    1.   Click “Start”, type “REGEDIT” (without quotation marks) in the “Search” bar and press Enter.

    Note: If UAC (User Account Control) pops up, please accept it.

    2. Right click “Computer” (the root node) in the left pane, click “Export” under the “File” menu, choose “All” under “Export range”, select “Desktop” in the “Save” in box and type backup in “File Name”. Click “Save”.

    Note: The backup file is on the Desktop and named backup.reg. We can simply restore the registry by double-clicking the backup.reg file.

    3. Click “Start”, type “REGEDIT” (without quotation marks) in the “Search” bar and press Enter again.

    4. Locate the “UpperFilters” value under the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}

    5. On the “Edit” menu, click “Delete”, and then click “OK”.

    6. Locate the “LowerFilters” value under the same key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}

    7. On the “Edit” menu, click “Delete”, and then click “OK”.

    8. Quit Registry Editor and restart the computer.

    What’s the result?

    Hi, i managed to delete the lowerfilters however there was no "upperfilters" in the folder specified. i searched all sub folders and it wasnt there. once i had restarted my computer windows made no recognition that any USB's had been plugged in. Is there anything else that i could do or would it be better if i took it to a computer shop?

    thanks for your help
