IE8 Installation Q&A
- Q: Why can’t a user install Internet Explorer 8 RC1 onto the Windows 7 Beta?
A: Windows 7 beta includes a pre-release candidate version of Internet Explorer 8 that is specifically optimized for Windows 7. Windows 7 enables unique features and functionality in Internet Explorer 8 including Windows Touch and Jump Lists which require additional product tests to ensure we are providing the best Windows experience for our customers. We will continue to update the version of Internet Explorer 8 running on Windows 7 as the development cycles of Windows 7 progress.
Internet Explorer 8 RC1 can be installed on Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Server 2008 and Window Server 2003 to provide users the opportunity to test and give feedback on their experiences. For more information on the synergies of running Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7, please visit this blog.
Q: I’m currently using Beta 2. Will I receive an Automatic Update notification to update to RC1? Will my Internet Explorer upgrade itself in the background without my permission?
A: Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 users signed up for Automatic Updates will receive a notification that Internet Explorer 8 RC1 is available for installation via Windows Update but will retain control over when the package is installed.
Q: Is this the first time beta software has been automatically upgraded through Windows Update?
A: No. The Hyper-V Release candidate was upgraded to Hyper-V RTM via Windows Update earlier this year.
Q: When you release the final version of Internet Explorer 8, will it be distributed via Automatic Updates (or WSUS) like you did with Internet Explorer 7?
A: Yes. For more information on Internet Explorer 8’s delivery methods please refer to the IE blog.

- InPrivate Filtering - this feature works, when on, when I remember to turn it on, my anti-spyware scan finds nothing.
Why does this have to be turned on manually with each instance of IE8? I don't experience any compute or app problems when this is on, why not the ability to leave it on all the time?

Good question there!
It's an answer I'd like to get too. Usually I browse w/ the InPrivate option on, but sometimes I forget this.
It would indeed be a lot better to have an "auto" option for InPrivate.
System: E-Max Intel 945GC-M2, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz, 4Gb Ram, Nvidia 9300 512Mb, LG BD Burner, 2x 500Gb HD, Sony Bravia, Windows 7 Beta 7000 x86 and x64.- The answer is quite simple actually because what is the use in installing a brand new browser on a beta when the release candidate hasn't even come out yet. My bet is that in the RC which is due out in May by my guess will have IE 8 in it.
- Q: When I am prompted to set-up IE 8.0, I ame asked what settings to use, custom, or express. When clicking express a security option is enabled that doesn't allow users to access secure log in sites. I have a list of the two I cannot access with IE 8.0 - keep in mind, your average user is always going to choose express...
www.worldofwarcraft.com - account section = fail (404 error - works on Firefox 3.0 when installed on Win 7 just fine...)
www.optimum.net - e-mail login = fail - but in a different way... it comes up with a prompt which reads "Do you want to view only the webpage containt that was delievered securily?" you are forced to select no each time, which is an issue and while it forces securiy to some, it mainly just inconviances most. I unfortunatly have had quite a bit of issues with IE 8.0 and the defualt settings - it would be nice if they were toned down a bit - there needs to be a line drawn between usability and security - it's unfortunate but true. Again, the option can be turned off with some easy navigation, however it takes a trip to the advanced tab to do so, average user isn't going to feel comfortable there - there should be an option on this prompt to click it and never show it again, as there have been with prompts in the past. - XiroMisho, I have to do the same to access my Optimum email account (no & no again with no option to turn off this feature) & I see no option to have IE8 start in inprivate mode for web browsing unless you restart with inprivate selected. Maybe an infamous service pack for IE8 will give us those options. I mean why have a web-surfing & antivirus program if you can't even start your email without questions. Dantrax
- XiroMisho, If you right click on IE8 icon on the taskbar you will get the option to load InPrivate browsing w/o having to start session & restart in InPrivate mode. I Just found that out. Dantrax
- It's strange that you're having issues with the WoW site. I'm running the Express settings on IE8 right now and had no issues getting into the site... As far as the other site is concerned, I don't have an account there, nor do I plan on making one, so I can't really say anything there.
- HI Tolerance,
Please run the Express settings on IE8 to fix this issue.
You have good day,
Sachin - Hi,
I request you try to run the Express settings on IE8 to fix this issue. Let me know what happens
You have good day,
Sachin XiroMisho, How are you connected to the net? If you run through a proxy server, then sometimes the proxy isn't set for all protocols (such as https, which is used for the account section). go to your proxy settings in ie and check that they are the same as firefox's (check to see if "use proxy settings for all protocols" is checked)
I have a Question for you - Why would IE 8 V.8.0.7000.0 running on Windows 7 Beta 7000 not allow the Windows 7 RC Download Manager to save a file to your own 'my documents' folder or your home folder on the computer hard disk drive?
Every time I attempt to download the RC from Microsoft the DM opens up and asks where to save the file then errors out because I do not have permissions to my own files/directories.
Very irritating behavior indeed.
CB- For anyone out there who dowloaded IE8 and is running development using C# in the .net framework with VS2008.
You may experience problems with IEShims.dll.
There are many references to this on other forums as well, but I found that the only painless way out was to revert to IE7. - My question is since I installed Windows 7 and it "supposedly" comes with a variation of IE8, where is it???
I checked my entire system and IE8 was never installed, in the area where you can turn on/off Windows 7 programs IE8 is checked but it does not show up in Add.Remove Programs, not in the Programs list in the Start Menu, not in any search I did, and there is not shortcut located anywhere on my desktop.
So where is it??
If it turns out that for some reason it wasn't installed like it was supposed to be since I can not download a version for it from the Microsoft site since they dont have a link to the Win 7 version how am I supposed to install it?
Bare in mind I am not a tech savy person.
Obviously to me that either the install I downloaded for Win 7 didn't have IE8 in it or there was a bug that kept it from installing.
Can you provide me with a link to download it or detailed direction as to where I can find it on Win 7?? Cannot get IE8 windows to hold their size. Tried every known fix. Any suggestions?
