Can't activate Windows 7 (Have install disc & Product key)
-
Saturday, March 02, 2013 8:47 PMHello; 3 months ago I bought Windows 7, installed it, & my motherboard fried. I had another computer with XP Professional 32 bit installed on it, so I used my Win 7 install cd & overwrote the XP PRO O.S. with it. Once the install completed, (which was a successful custom install, w/ no problems), I attempted to activate the computer several times with the Product key that came with the Install CD, but was rejected each time because the Product key was already in use on another PC. I paid $125.00 + tax for Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit just a few months ago, and hope that the bad circumstances with my burnt PC isn't going to force me into having to pay another $125+ dollars for another copy of Win 7. There has to be a solution of some kind for this type of situation, so I don't get burned; Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My computer is whining about only having 2 days left until automatic activation; I hope it doesn't self-destruct at that time if this ordeal isn't sorted out by then. Thank you-

Hi,
you will need to use telephone activation, contact the MS Activation Centre for assistance, and you can then explain your situation so they can help.

Thanks Don, I happened to be doing the telephone activation as you replied to my post. Microsoft was surprisingly helpful & courteous. They activated my system within 3 minutes of me placing the call. Thanks again for the advice-- Marked As Answer by Niki HanMicrosoft Contingent Staff, Moderator Monday, March 04, 2013 6:47 AM
