windows 7 setup -- monitor in standby
-
Saturday, June 19, 2010 4:35 PMI have started a Windows 7 setup on my computer. At the second restart, right after the Windows logo, my monitor goes into standby state and stays there, so I cannot finish the installation.
I have searched a bit around and it seems that the Windows 7 setup comes with bad NVIDIA drivers which have this issue.
How can I solve this problem? How can I finish the installation?
Thank you, Albert

Someone else described the same problem on stackoverflow.

He did some further debugging:
"It seems that drivers integrated into windows 7 setup are bad. I took my video card to friends computer, different platform, and got the same results. Then i put other ati card, installed windows 7 with it, powered off, put my HD4870, boot and instaled drivers from ati site. Everything seems to be working."

Ok, I found a solution. When you press multiple times F8 at boot (just before Windows logo shows up), you got into the advanced boot loader settings. There is an option "enable low-resolution video(640x480)". With that option, I could recontinue and finish the Windows setup.
Described with a few more details here:
