How to you De-Activate Windows 7
- Purchased a laptop with Vista Basic because I had Windows 7 already on order. When it arrived iI nstalled Windows 7 and activated. The Touchpad now does not work 90% of the time. I am going to return the laptop to the manufactorer but wanted to make sure no one else could take advantage of my Windows 7 Ultimate Product key and I could reuse it without complications. Thanks Kenneth

- Hi, once activated, you can only see the product id and not the key used to activate, so no-one should be able to reuse you key.
If you want to de-activate Windows, I once did it by mistake and I think I ran:
%WINDIR%\system32\slui.exe -Embedding- Marked As Answer byVivian XingMSFT, ModeratorThursday, November 05, 2009 2:38 AM
Hi,
I suggest restoring the computer to factory settings. There should be a restore program or disc to do it. Please keep the Windows 7 Product key. In the future, if you install it on another computer, you can activate it via Phone Activation system and at the same time, the copy on the old computer is deactivated.
Phone Activation system
================================================
1. Click the Start button, type "SLUI.EXE 4" (without the quotation marks) in the search box, and press “Enter”.
2. Select the neatest location, and click "Next".
3. Please click "Continue" when the User Account Control dialog-box appears.
4. The Windows Activation will generate a toll-free phone number. And the installation ID will be displayed in the following format:
xxxxxx – xxxxxx – xxxxxx – xxxxxx – xxxxxx – xxxxxx – xxxxxx – xxxxxx – xxxxxx
5. Call the number to activate Windows 7.
