Invoking DCOMPERM.exe at INSTALLATION time.
-
Sunday, January 20, 2013 12:47 PMI'm trying to use DCOMPERM.exe - a tool that allows us to configure DCOM permissions and Identity context to launch a COM object. The tool works fine if i directly use it,(i.e. i can load the COM object from one of my services), but if i invoke the tool in one of my custom actions during INSTALLATION time, though the INSTALLATION completes successfully, i'm unable to load the COM server . I receive an E_ACCESSDENIED error , although dcomcnfg shows that installation configured the Access/Launch Permissions and the RUNAS attribute successfully (as good as if DCOMPERM was used manually). What am i missing here?
Is the password attribute passed to DCOMPERM, at the time of install creating problems?
Is there a guideline to use DCOMPERM.exe at the time of install??

Hi,
Microsoft internal database has no any kind of guideline about invoke DCOMPERM.exe at installation time. Based on my experience, it is recommended to avoid invoking this tool at installation time.
