Service Pack 1
-
Saturday, February 02, 2013 3:33 PMOkay It has been 6 months and I still cannot install service pack 1. I run windows 7 64 bit ultimate. These are the things I have done, without any rectification: scf/scannow, regedit network to decimal 14, turned off security, readyness tool, stand alone install, update install, defregmented, purchased ErroEND program and ran several times, Boot time defregmented, ran all file CHKS tools, Ran winodws repoair off my windows 7 install CD. Even after all this I still am getting the same error code E_FAIL 0x80004005. I am not interested in re-install windows 7. The computer is a couple years old and I have it loaded with all personal files and work files. I feel a re-install will put everything within the system at risk. Is there any other steps I can take to rectify this very very annoying situation?

Here is a link that might solve the problem. Try the Microsoft Fix It.

Hi,
If above KB can not solve your issue. You may try to In Place upgrade for Windows 7.
