General DiscussionHow do i get my WM-12 to stop adding ALL my music to a "now playing" playlist

ok so this is the problem, it seems that with the new WM 12, they have removed the "Playlist" tab, and you only have 1 tab, called "Play", whereas before you had a "Now Playing" and a "Playlist" Tab.

this is my BIG one and only gripe about WM12, everything else is great, but this is a big smelly ball of ____.

WHY did they remove the Playlist tab? now this thing smashes ALL my music into ONE place.

making big playlists, and going back to my library to check if i have "repeated" songs in my playlists is IMPOSSIBLE, since whoever was in charge of engineering WM12, had the BRIGHT idea of making WM12 CLEAR the playlist in the right pane, and add your ENTIRE music library to it whenever you play any song...

i mean i seriously can't believe how you can make all of Win7 so good, and everything is great, and then make an amazingly stupid and annoying mistake like this one...

and i have looked EVERYWHERE inside WM12 to find a setting to make it so it doesn't do this ____, and i have found nowhere.

    this guy: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7music/thread/c13a3059-cdbb-4eaf-92dd-bf3d927f2597
also has the exact same problem as me, but no one is able to help him.

just save ur playlist when ur finish loading ur songs and then after WMP saves it, it will be listed under playlists.

So you go over to playlists and select the playlist you just saved.

It will now take over the area where ur library use to be.

Once ur playlist loads up hit the column with the 'Titles' head on it.

This will list everything alphabetically so if you see a double song u can get rid of it by right clicking on the track and going to  'Remove from list'

If you want to add some more songs just double click the playlist and it wil end up back in the play tab.

yes it will end up in the play tab again if i double click my playlist, but if i want to add more songs to it, i can no longer hear what i want to add to it, because if when i double click a song in my playlist my playlist will be displayed in the play tab, but if i now go back to my library and look for a song i want to add, and double click that song, it now AGAIN does the same thing and clears the play pane, and sets ALL my library in it, and i can no longer see my playlist anymore.

i mean, why the ____ would i want my entire music library in a damn "Play playlist" rather than letting it make a "play now" playlist on a SEPARATE tab, letting me still choose my music with MY playlist being displayed in the right pane. i dont see why i would want my media player to do that. i dont see who couldve come up with such a horrendous idea.

whoever came up with it should be fired, and kicked in the rear a few times.

if you hover ur mouse over the track there is a preview highlight.

click on it and don't move ur mouse around and it will play the song ur hovering over and also skip thru the track if u hit the skip highlight

as soon as u move ur mouse it wil stop playing the song.

I thought this was pretty kool since if I have a song already playing it will pause whats playing and start the previewed track and soon as my mouse leaves the track it goes back to playing my other song.

So now u can add tracks to ur playlist with out clicking on the songs from the library and disrupting ur list making.

This is how u can make a playlist the way u want Kenshin.

Go head and create the playlist before putting in the tracks. That way it will be under the Playlisting.

Go back to the library select all the songs you want by doing the whole ctrol+click thing with the mouse.

right click one of the tracks highlighted for selection. (don't left click or u'll lose all the selections)

You should see a 'Add to' in the menu and it opens up to show u the playlists

Select the playlist u want to add ur tracks to and Bam!! ur done. :-D

i don't think you guys get my point. i know how to do all that, in fact that IS how i've been doing my playlists for the past month since i got windows 7. it's not a matter of if i can do it, it's a matter of if there is a way to make this function like WM 11 did, because i personally think it's total ____ what they did to the whole playlist system. i want to know if there is a way to make my life easier again, like WM11, because it takes me 5x as much time to do tasks i did in much less time with windows vista.

in fact you know what, does anyone know if i can install WM11 on my PC? because i am just about to do just that to fix this horrid application.

i wish whoever came up with it was aborted or something, because he has caused great harm to the world... wow

so does anyone know how to fix this?

is there no one else that has noticed how horrifically inefficient and retarded the whole process of creating a playlist has become??

I think I may be talking in circles about the very same but slightly different things, so my apologies if I'm off-kilter here:

Selecting a track from a playlist sets focus on that playlist and plays from that point.  Everything's a playlist in the player.

So say I have a playlist set in the Play pane.  I then browse to some other track.  I can either use the hover Preview option to check out that track or I can double-click that track to play it.  If I double-click it, that sets that playlist as the active playlist, per above.  If I want to go back to the previous playlist, I use the playlist history buttons at the top of the playlist area (on either side of the playlist name) to navigate forwards or backwards.   Previously in WMP11, the behavior was that I needed to click "Edit Now Playing" to have the Playlist area reflect what I was listening to.  Now it does it automatically so that it's not just "lost" space.  I am not aware of a way to turn this off.  You can "splice" the track into the current playlist (instead of setting new playlist focus) by right-clicking the track and choosing "Play Next".

Am I missing some usage context?  Between hover preview and Play Next, you should get *about* equivalent functionality. =\

it won't give you equivalent functionality because if you double click one of your songs in your library, that is NOT in the current playlist you are creating, it'll wipe out your new playlist and it'll add your ENTIRE music LIBRARY to a "now Playing" playlist, and force it to display that in your playlist editing pane.

therefore if you want to preview a song in your library that is in a LONG playlist, to double check and see if that song is highlighted while playing in your current playlist, you can no longer do such a thing.
the only way to check if a song is already in the playlist you are creating is to go trough EVERY damn song and double check the name with the song you are unsure about to see if that song is already in your playlist or not...

    do u get it?

What happens if you click the "previous" button in the "playlist history" control set that I mentioned?

If you want to preview a song in your library, does it work to use the hover preview functionality?

    Well,
From the Text name of the said function "Play Next" does not say to me add to current play list.
Oh yes that sounds really fun for making a play list. Find a song click on it and then click back on the auto play list tab to then add the said song to the playlist. Then go searching again and click song.. makes another playlist click back on that then adding again.. In no way does the words Play Next say to me add to playlist. must have missed that in something like "user interface design 101".
    ----
Was not saying that it was useful or worked like a real program should. It more of annoyance.
In having to flip back and forth to make a playlist be it for listing to or for syncing. Which waste my time and then I have a need to find a better product that works.
Oh and the "Hover Preview" mode is not at all useful when trying to make a sync list for podcast or anytime so far for me.

"Play Next" creates a dynamic playlist which is the current playlist with that track inserted at the point "next".

I would have thought that the "Play" option there that plays just the song would be a better option for you contextually than "Play Next".  Then use the Previous button to return to the playlist in question.
Or Hover Preview, which doesn't affect the current playlist in any way.  It's almost as if it was pretty explicitly designed for your scenario. ;-)

edit re cap's edit: Huh?  The Sync and Burn lists are their own dedicated temporary playlists that function as auxiliary playlists.  If you have *those* active, they don't update when you doubleclick in the middle pane. And you can Save As that burn or sync list, which is about 98% of what I think you're hinting at.
