What codec do I need for blue-ray player?

My blue-ray player that came with my PC used to work, then for some reason it stopped and said I was missing the codecs to play this media.
What happened and where can I go to get the correct codecs to make it work again?

What's the name of this player and what's the exact error message?
If you use System Restore to roll back the system to an earlier state (when blue-ray playback was still working), does that help?
