Hi,
It may be something as simple as needing to completely remove all traces of any pre-existing Nvidia software. Go here http://www.overclock.net/faqs/12466-info-nvidia-driver-cleaning-guide.html and follow the instructions to clean the Nvidia drivers from your box, then follow the instructions to do a 'clean' install of the reference drivers from Nvidia.com.
I ran into a similar problem back when Vista was released and I was continually getting an IRQ_less_or_not_equal BSOD and frequent lockups when attempting to play *any* flavor of video file. I lost count of how many times I had reinstalled the video drivers before I discovered the method to completely rid my system of any and all Nvidia video driver related files. Once I got rid of all the ____ & did a clean install, everything was happy.
