I find it very frustrating that I have to import ALL the pictures, without having the choice to choose which ones to import. I thought for sure they would address this in Win 7. Am I missing something? Seems like a no brainer to me to have that choice.

If you install Windows Live Photogallery (part of Windows Live Essentials) you'll get new import wizard with more advanced options.

    Download Windows Live Essentials

One thing, the build-in wizard does better: it puts pictures and videos in different folders. The photo gallery wizard puts all files in one folder, so pictures and videos end up both unter "My Pictures" or "My Videos" (or in another folder). Kind of stupid, because this way, it renders the Windows 7 libraries (Picture and Video) somehow useless (because videos end up under pictures or the other way round).

So does the live essential photo gallery let me choose which pictures to import? My camera is broken at the moment, so I can't test it.

I agree, that at import of photos it is very important to make possibility of their choice. It can be a simple choice on dates. I have tried to use Windows Live. In this program it is possible to choose separate photos, but it is impossible to choose photos on separate days. Photos are not grouped in dates, and grouped in time difference. I think it not so conveniently.

well the post before my last one stated that you COULD choose which photos to import, I don't see that option. Am I missing it? Sometimes I wonder if anyone but the coders look at this stuff before it gets out to the final version. I mean that one is such a no brainer, literally the FIRST question my customers ask me, every single time, when I try to show them how to import pictures is "how do I only import the ones that I want?"

I don't know which version of Windows Live Photogallery you are using, but with the latest version, the bolded parts are simply not true (checked on both of my computers, both running Win7 and Vista).

If you select "import pictures and videos" either from the autoplay popup window or from within windows live photogallery, in the first window which comes up, you have to choose that you want to group the pictures/ video yourself.
In the next window, you get a slider in the bottom right corner. With that, you can choose how "strong" the grouping will be.
If you put that slider to the right, all chosen files will be imported in one folder. In the left position, the photos will be seperated, if they are taken more than half an hour apart. (Sorry for my poor english).

For each group (seperated by the choosen time-difference), you can decide, which files you want to import ...

I just took a screenshot: import selection

Are you sure, you are using the windows live import wizard and not the default import wizard (see autoplay dialog screenshot)?

I see what's happening,,, it is the autoplay feature that defaults to the windows import as opposed to the PHoto gallery import. When I cancelled the windows import and went to the PhotoGallery import, THERE is the option to choose the photos! Thank you for clearing this up... I will just change the autoplay options to default to photogallery...

Unfortunately an available toddler it is impossible to separate dates precisely. For example if a series of photos - in the evening, in the morning, in the morning, is made in the evening. Division according to dates will be more convenient.

Also it will be probable to add not difficult all these functions in Win7 not to instal additional programs for division of loaded photos.
