How can you remove or prevent a folder from being displayed in Media Center?

I have my computer linked with my Xbox 360 so that I can share movies, anime, music, etc with the living room TV, but it's also sharing my C:/ drive and all of the files in My Documents folder. I'd like to be able to keep that folder private but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to remove it from being displayed in Windows Media Center.

There must be a way to turn off sharing with WMC and I can't believe its not more obvious... whats the trick?

...Anyone? I find it hard to believe this is so difficult to do.

The closest I've been able to get to preventing files from being shown in Media Center is manually changing the extension of the file, but this seems like a ridiculous method. SURELY it's possible to just turn off a folder from ever being put in Media Center but I cannot figure out how to do it.

You simply need to enter the files to share in the Control Panel\Network and Internet\Home Group

Thank you, that was very helpful, but it still did not resolve my issue completely. Still when I click Picture Library from Media Center, "Local Disk C:/" is displayed and from there you can browse the entire folder hierarchy and see image/video file on my hard drive.

It doesn't seem right, and definitely isn't secure, that someone can access the Libraries that I have turned off (I disabled Pictures in the manner you described) and even get to files that aren't part of any library by snooping through this really obvious doorway.

HMMM, try going into WMP and set the library directories. Perhaps one of your libraries is sharing your root.

also try

Control Panel\Network and Internet\HomeGroup Change advanced sharing settings and disable public sharing.

Not at all sure if this is part of the problem, but when I originally set up my VISTA Media Center I accidentally let media center (and therefore Windows Media Player) look at my entire machine to catalog music. I found that once Media Player had cataloged the data source, it did not want to let go of that source of data even after being told to stop looking at the entire machine. I did a few searches and found instructions on how to delete and recreate the Media Player Library and this solved my issue ....

Again ... not sure this is the same thing, but worth a shot ...
