laptop to big screen TV!!! pls help!!!
- I just recently had a computer crash. I previously had vista and after the crash my comp was switched over to windows 7..since then anytime i wanna have volume for anything I have to restart my comp. but the main issue and reason I am asking this ? is the fact that I used to be able to download or live stream movies onto my laptop and using a cord hook my laptop to my big screen tv . since getting windows 7 I have been unable to do this! all I get is a blank black screen on my tv . I believe the problem is I have outdated drivers and am not able to update them until the end of october when windows 7 is officially released and the drivers are relaeased as well. I have been waiting months already and HATE having to spend money to rent movies that I used to get for free all day!! am I correct? will the drivers fix my problem??......Since this bulletin windows 7 has been released and i have checked gateway and windows 7 websites or hours to no result. when my computer starts up there is a error message in the bottom left corner about a driver being outdated due to combatibility issues or something along those lines.I jus dont know what driver or drivers I need to download or if that is even the issue. I have waited months for windows 7 to be released and now have no idea where to turn. im gonna try calling gateway and windows. I appreciate ANY help!!.
BELOW IS THE ONLY ANSWER I RECEIVED AFTER POSTING THIS BULLETIN IN A DIFFERENT WINDOWS FORUM!! scottdrnk@hotmail.com.... my email
Only the driver writer knows. The maker of the device is the only one deciding that. Check their site for info

Hi sharmy21, I'd like to inform you that those third party hardware driver is not directly provided by Microsoft even those on Windows Update are provided by hardware manufacturer. For this hardware driver related issue, we need to check if there is a proper driver on hardware manufacturer's website. If not, we may need to contact with them and see if they will continue to provide driver for the hardware under Windows 7.
For example, some video card manufacturers have stopped developing video card drivers for old video card. For this kind of situation, we can either try their drivers for Windows Vista or (if that driver does not work under Windows 7) contact hardware manufacturer for driver update. Thank you for your understanding.

- my video car is a nvidia geforce 8800m gts which is a pretty new card!..i checked gateways website and was waiting for windows 7 to be released hoping there would be drivers available for my computer but there wasnt but i havent tryed to download a driver for vista so ill try that... what else can i try? ive had this problem for months and miss watching those free movies on my big screen
- Hi sharmy21, if the issue is really caused by outdated driver, you may need to contact with hardware manufacturer, gateway or nvidia for a compatible driver. Meanwhile, have you tried use keyboard combo to enable duplicate/extender on the TV? You can also go to : Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display\Screen Resolution and check if the TV has been recognized by the laptop, then choose the display mode.
Sean Zhu - MSFT - I APPRECIATE THE HELP.. IM NOT TOO LITERIATE WITH THE COMP AND TV.. I KNOW A LIL BIT BUT I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE KEYBOARD COMBO IS??? AND I DID THE OTHER THING AND IT DID NOT RECOGNIZE THE TV AS FAR AS I COULD SEE. WHEN I PRESSED DETECT NOTHING HAPPENED.. AND IM GONNA TRY TO CONTACT THE HARDWARE MANUF.. ANY OTHER OPTIONS! i jus alrdy paid 160 BUCKS TO GET MY COMP FIXED SO IM GONNA HATE TAKING IT TO GEEKSQUAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I fully understand the inconvenience you have encountered. The keyboard combo may vary from different brand laptop. Usually, it can be Fn (function key) + F7 or F8. You can try keyboard combo with: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display\Screen Resolution and check if the TV has been recognized by the laptop, then choose the display mode.
