unwanted media center launch
- Every time I insert a DVD movie into my drive Media center launches and I really don't like that application at all. I like the media player because it gives me access to all the functions on a DVD menu. The Media Center wont give me access to the menu's without going through a whole bunch of nonesense. The thing is good for playing trailers and small clips ( neither of which I am interested in ) plays videos with reduced quality compared to media player, ( jiggy jaggies ) and wont stop launching even though I have set both the auto play and the other thing to use media player instead of Media Center. I wish there was some way of deleting the thing but can't find it in program lists just the sport package upgrade. And that's another thing, I keep getting these unasked for upgrades automatically installed by microsoft which don't work in Canada and if they do they don't work on mine because I have no TV tuner installed. To me the thing is just excess baggage and I want rid of it.

- Hi xoral, if you want to disable Windows Media Center, you can go to Control Panel - Programs and features - Turn Windows features on or off (on the left panel) - Media Features - uncheck Windows Media Center to disable it. Then, you can restart the computer and check the result.

- When I uncheck the media center box it unchecks the media player box by default, they seem to be linked. The solution does not seem to work in this case. Thank you for your reply Sean.
- Hi xoral, I'd like to inform you that Windows Media Center works like a Windows Media Player UI, if we uncheck Windows Media Player, it will disable Windows Media Center. However, if we disable WMC, WMP should work without enabling WMC. On my Windows 7 RTM, it works like that. Could you re-check this on your computer?

- I just uninstalled Roxio video labs 10 and the movie I inserted booted right into the full screen instantly with no hangs and faster than it did before. After I unchecked the Media Center and it auto unchecked the media player, there was only the roxio that reluctantly would play a video so I reninstalled the media player and the media center stayed uninstalled ( they unchecked together but recheck seperately ) so I though I had it fixed but media player still wouldn't launch but roxio did so I took the program out and bingo! Better than new. Thanks for your efforts Sean sure appreciate your help.
