Windows 7 RC (7100) Wifi not working
- Hi there,
Sorry for double post but the thread i posted in earlier was marked as answered and it hasn't solved my problem. so i figure i start a fresh post. so here goes.... Last night Win7 RC 7100 on my dell vostro 1500 crashed. On start up I get the animated blue circle on the empty wireless bars in the bottom right notification area. after which the icon changes to no connection red cross and I am unable to connect to a wireless network.
When I click on anything to do with networking via control panel or the bottom right notification area Windows Explorer crashes and restarts. Most of the time a error message stating Windows Explorer has stopped working flashes on the screen even if I just mouse over the icon for network connections on the bottom. The error seems to flash really quick and explorer restarts.
I am able to connect to the internet using a Ethernet cable directly to my laptop but the icon at the bottom does not change and explorer still crashes if i mouse over it or click it. This problem started last night after the laptop crashed and restarted. I disabled all start up items and third party services when booting but it did not solve the problem. I have tried a system restore to two different points in the past when i did not have this problem and the issues persists. I know the net still works but having to connect a laptop using a cable defeats the purpose of a laptop... any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards

Hi,
I suspect this issue should be related to the Wireless NIC. I have also searched on the Dell site and just got the following:
Drivers and Downloads Vostro Notebook 1500
For Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card, I just got the driver for Windows Vista and it might be the latest version:
Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card
Please Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information.
At this time, please also try the following:
1. Completely remove all the drivers, software and utilities of the Wireless NIC.
2. Reboot the computer.
3. Try the driver above with Compatibility Mode and check how it works.
Hope this helps. Thanks.

- Just a quick update disabling the Dell 1505 802.11n WLAN in safe mode and restarting gets rid of the problem where explorer crashes when i mouse over the icon at the bottom right notification area. On re-enabling the WLAN card i no longer get the error but it doesn't detect any networks. right clicking the icon brings up troubleshoot and open network and sharing center. In the Network and sharing center if i click on connect to a network it does nothing....
in case your wondering ...yes the little switch on the side for the WLAN card is flipped on and i see the Wifi indicator next to my power indicator lit up aswell. However the light next to the switch "Dell Wi-Fi Catcher Network Locator light " has a little radio tower icon next to it is not lit up. Dell manual says this means no signal is found...
I have also found that WLAN Autoconfig services is currently stopped. When I try to start the service i get an error 0xc000001d: 0xc000001d. (i might be off the zeros ><)
- Did you perform an in-place upgrade or a clean install of Win 7RC?
Download and install the Vista driver from Dell support for the 1505 802.11n WLAN.
ASUS P4PE-P4 Extreme 3.4gHz-2gb G.Skill PC3200-XPSP3:55gb-Win7RC:17gb-DATA:500gb-ASUS N6800GT - It was a clean install. Also it had been be working perfectly for about 3 months now.... installing the dell drivers doesn't seem to have changed anything unfortunately... It is the strangest thing. Usually even if no networks are present clicking on connect to a network in network and sharing center brings up another window which says no networks found. When i click on connect to a network it does absolutely nothing.... and if i try to setup a wireless connection it just closes the window....
Just to clarify wired internet works fine....
i am now running the 4.170.77.3 version of the broadcom driver from the dell support site.
like before the device is working properly or atleast that what the device manager states.
but the problem of being unable to connect thru wifi persists.
I can't even get to the point where it shows me the available wifi connections...
and i cannot start the WLAN autoconfig service i get an saying error 0xc000001d: 0xc000001d. - Ishan22,
Just to be sure, have you logged into the router to verify that the wireless is on? Also, check the settings. Broadcast SSID (y or n), security settings, etc. Is the antenna blocked or the router by something metallic?
Did you change the Admin password?
verify that you are sending out a signal.
ASUS P4PE-P4 Extreme 3.4gHz-2gb G.Skill PC3200-XPSP3:55gb-Win7RC:17gb-DATA:500gb-ASUS N6800GT - Yes the router is sending out a signal there are two other laptops that are able to connect to the router with no problems. it is broadcasting SSID and no setting have been changed.
It is a problem with my laptop since i am unable to even see the networks around me to connect to them. - Ok, good. What changed before the crash? A Windows update, install a new application, anything. Have you tried a system restore to the most recent point before the crash?
Have you run the hardware or network troubleshooter from the action center? Flag in notification area.
Is the computer running ok now or do you still have crash problems?
Now download and install the notebook system software (Vista version 32-bit) and the dell wireless 1505 driver (vista) and install. That should get the WiFi catcher switch working and wireless network adapter.
I put Win 7RC on an M6300. Installed all of the Vista drivers in the recommended order and then let Windows update handle the rest. Notebooks need the manufacturer's software to get features and components working correctly. Only some devices are generic enough for standard drivers.
ASUS P4PE-P4 Extreme 3.4gHz-2gb G.Skill PC3200-XPSP3:55gb-Win7RC:17gb-DATA:500gb-ASUS N6800GT - I have tried to doing a system restores upto a week ago and it doesnt solve any of the problems. the only thing i have installed before the crash is Mass Effect but that was over a week ago.
I did install the drivers from the dell website and it didnt solve the problem either.... actually windows update wants me to install the drivers i had previously again.
The flag shows no issues :-s and network troubleshooter does nothing. "couldnt not identify the problem"
I have the dell wireless WLAN card utility (comes with the driver) installed and it does nothing when i run it. I have tried running as admin too and the screen just goes blank for a second and nothing....
Now on restart i sometimes get Dell Wireless WLAN Card Wireless Network Tray Applet has stopped working error...
- Ishan22,
The cause of the crash concerns me.
If you want to continue to troubleshoot, you could check the event viewer, Start orb, right click computer, select manage. Expand the Event heading and check Windows logs and Service and Apps logs. Perhaps that can give you a clue.
The game Mass Effect, needs to go out and connect with a verification server, limiting you to a certain number of activations. That should have happened over the wired, if the wireless wasn't working. I can't be sure that was the cause. Perhaps the event viewer will show if it caused a problem or not.
If the wireless card continues to cause problems, you could get an Intel 3945 and replace the Dell card.
At this point, I think you would save a lot time by performing a fresh install. Have all of the Vista drivers available on removable storage and install those after the Win 7 installation, if needed. Dell is not listing the Vostro 1500 as tested and supported for Win 7, so they have not posted Win 7 drivers. Same on my M6300, but I have it working, just as you did with the Vostro.
ASUS P4PE-P4 Extreme 3.4gHz-2gb G.Skill PC3200-XPSP3:55gb-Win7RC:17gb-DATA:500gb-ASUS N6800GT - i don t think its same problem
basic i had connection problems to
appear i was online was no browser connection
again might not be same problem
router was under a tv table wich was metal signal hvae a problem to each
i removed it
now on the ground away from tv cabel
and wireless recefer i made a cabel that goes to area where there a signal
might be where computer is signal is to fair awar
might not in your case just share mi experince

- 1) did you delete the windows old folder.2) and you cant click on anything on desktop right if you do it states internet explorer stopped working3) and its tricky but you can open computer but only for about a minuteafter the computer starts or it stated internet explorer stopped working.
- let me know if this is the problem and i will e-mail you the solution
Similar issue Here.
WiFi was working fine for 1 week..then today, one of my laptops are not able to connect. Dell d620. All other laptops worked fine. No new software installed on d620. No password change.
It detects the network full strength
i delete and re-created the profile.
performed a diagnostic and repair
Worked great...then sudddenly stopped connecting.
Again, Vista based laptops continue to work fine.
Michael- deleted the WiFi card driver in device manager...rebooted...it redected the card and was then able to connect..
the end - hi there,
So I was having the same problem on my dell precision M6300 , Now, my NIC manager was telling me that my network card was working and all that but i was getting no wireless at all. this might sound simple and you might have already tried but go into your dell quickset and see what the hotkey is for your radio because it turns out i had just accidentally hit the hot key to turn off my radio and that was the issue. if you have a wirless toggle button on your laptop then disregard this post.
