    Hello,

I came across a strange problem on one of my clients Win 7 notebook.  The client is no longer able to RDP into his server or office PC.  I verified this and also found that I could not RDP into any local servers or PC's. I tried several suggested solutions including KB2592687 issue, I also noticed that I could no longer connect to MS update or windows update.  Again I tried several fixes deleting repository running MS Fixit tool and a few others I can not remember.  Looking at the log files, the problems with update started in early November, my client had not noticed anything until a week ago when he tried RDP.  I am thinking these 2 issues are somehow related but cannot find the cause.  Otherwise everything else seems good.  I will be getting a chance to pull the notebook this weekend and hoping to find a solution. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thank You

    Hi,

I suggest you try the following:

    1. Boot into Clean Boot Mode and try updating again.

    2. Run the Microsoft Fixit and see how it works.

Fix the problem with Microsoft Windows Update that is not working

    3. Try System Update Readiness tool by referring to What is the System Update Readiness Tool?.

    4. Run System File Checker tool and see how it works.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you for suggestion

tried clean boot and ran fixit utility (said it found and fixed problems) but did not repair problem with update, error 80004002 comes up. System file checker comes back service cannot start.  I am going to try a more aggressive scan for infections, inital scans showed only minor adware & trackers

    Hi,

For the error code 80004002, you can try the steps in Windows Update error 80004002.

Also, to repair the system, here is an article for your reference:

    Thanks Vincent,

I have tried the error 80004002 repair already, still no good.  I am going to try a offline SFC scan next, if that's a bust I will try the repair install and let you know either way.

    Hi Vincent,

My client is a accountant and at this point he does not want to have me do anything that might effect his tax software, so I will get the laptop back after tax season and try the repair install.

    Thanks
