"Windows could not start the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Service..."
-
Tuesday, May 15, 2012 6:18 PMI searched and none of the 'answers' given can solve my problem. Basically I was sharing my LAN network through my wireless pci card. Since my wireless pci card broadcasts dual band a/b/g/n I figured it would help with my iphone and my other wireless networks. However one day it just stopped and I didn't quite have the time to fix it. But now I don't remember when it stopped working and I tried a system restore. Short of reformatting, which I really don't want to do, I'm stuck. When I try to activate sharing it tells me, "Windows could not start the Internet Connectino Sharing (ICS) service on Local Computer. Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion."
All my services for networking are on except this one. I tried the sfc /scan now, and it says nothing is wrong. I tried restoring to the earliest restore point I had... no luck. My computer doesn't have a virus. Please... help me

From Answers:
You may try the following methods.
Method 1
Step 1
I would suggest that you check if you can start the dependency service for DHCP client service.
A. Click on Start and them type cmd and press Enter
B. In the command prompt type: CMD /K SC QC DHCP
C. Press Enter check if the dependency service is started.
Step 2:Verify that the Dependency Service / components are running
A. ClickStart, type “DEVMGMT.MSC”in the start search box and press enter.
B. In theView menu, clickShow hidden devices
C. Double-click Non-Plug and Play drivers section
D. Double-click the entryAncillary Function Driver for Winsock, and click theDriver tab
E. Set theStartup type toSystem.
F. Start theservice. Note down the error message if any.
G. Similarly start the two other drivers namely:
• TCP/IP Protocol Driver
• NetBios over TcpipH. Close Device Manager andrestart Windows.
I. Now check if you can start the DHCP service.
Method 2
Step 1
Reset TCP/IP
A. Click start, type “cmd” in the start search box
B. Right click cmd at the top of the menu and select “run as administrator”
C. Type the following command in the command prompt:netsh int ip reset logfile.txt
D. Restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
Step 2
If resetting TCP/IP does not help, run sfc scan (system file checker) on your computer.

Hi,
To uninstall and reinstall the wireless pci card driver first, and you may have a system In-Place Upgrade. In the meantime, to reset firewall to default and temporarily disable it.

To have a try with these two discussions. I think that there is some servcie which does not start. Error1075 is more relate to firewall, you'd better temporarily disable firewall for test.
An error occurred while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled. The dependency service or group failed?

Error "An error occurred while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled. (null)"
Hope that helps.

Thursday, May 31, 2012 9:21 AMIt appears... there is something wrong with my firewall...?
http://tinypic.com/r/2rcbggo/6
I have mcafee that manages it though. Do you think that is why I'm having trouble with my ICS? -

I decided to do what was said here, http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-security/windows-firewall-cant-change-some-of-your-settings/2679690e-c375-4232-ae45-404374386635.
Just proving again SFC /SCANNOW picks up nothing. In addition that something is obviously wrong :(
Now I'm going to say this before, that things came up wrong but perfectly clean BEFORE AND STILL after I set up a partition and installed a windows 7 again. In hopes I could transfer the GOOD files over. I haven't done it yet, because I would imagine it would be hell and I don't quite know what files to bring over. Any ideas? -

Hi,
Restore Windows Firewall settings
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Restore-Windows-Firewall-settings
In the meantime, you'd better disable macfee.
If the issue persists, to have an In-Place upgrade.

Friday, June 01, 2012 3:41 AMWon't let me restore defaults. And I cannot do an in-place upgrade because my computer restarts 6 times before it actually boots up. A pain in the ass, and as such the loaded stuff to start doing an upgrade gets lost.

Hi,
To repair the firewall first, and then the ICS. Based on your screenshot, the firewall error code is 0x80070424. Here are two articles that may help you.
Error Code 0x80070424 with Windows Firewall and "Base Filtering Engine Service" Not available in services database list
Error 0x80070424 occurs when you use Windows Update, Microsoft Update, or Windows Firewall

Hope that helps.
