Atheros AR5006EG Wireless Network Adapter, connection drops unexpectedly
-
Saturday, May 16, 2009 7:36 PMI have been attempting to troubleshoot issues with my laptop wireless connection and Windows 7 for days with no resolve. I am using a Toshiba Satellite laptop with an Atheros AR5006EG Wireless Network Adapter (Driver version: Microsoft, 2.0.0.72, 4/8/2009.
Connected to an Unsecured wireless network with MAC filtering and DHCP. Wireless Router: Netgear WNR854t Firware 1.4.34NA. (Draft N Router)
Things I have tried:
I have changed the wireless router to specifically set channels (1 through 11) instead of Automatic channels.
Roll Back the driver to the 3/11/2009 version 2.0.0.70 from Microsoft.
Ping the router: PING 10.0.0.1 -t and monitored the connectivity which fails between 10 and 20 pings.
Disabled IPv6.
Updated the driver etc.
Problem:
The wireless connection stays connected but communication fails. Pings fail with Request timed out and occassionally show Destination host errors. I am using a wired connection only is it seems to be the only working connection.

Saturday, May 23, 2009 12:26 AMAdam, could you please answer the questions below to help us determine where the problem could be?
1) Do you have access to another machine (not necessarily Windows7) which can connect to this router. I'd like to check if other machines are able to connect to the router and maintain connectivity when the Windows7 machine is encountering this problem.
2) Does resetting the router fix the issue?
3) After your machine loses connectivity, could you please run the following commands in cmd.exe and cut and paste the output in your reply?
* netsh wlan show all
* ipconfig /all
Thanks,

I had a problem with my Broadcom 802.11 b/g. Check my post http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/5098a34c-1f38-4dbc-a723-eda56578eea8/?prof=required and see if your problems are simlar. If they are, I managed to solve it. But I have a broacom networking adapter. Since you are using Athros, you will have to go through some painstaking googling and try to find a stable driver version for yours.
Hope I've been of some help! -

Ajay, there was a bug in inbox drivers for some devices which is fixed in the drivers available through Windows Update. You happen to have a device in whose driver the bug existed, and the updated driver addressed your issue. However there is no known issue with Atheros drivers so this is likely a different root cause.
Adam - please answer the questions I asked above and we will take it from there.

Monday, May 25, 2009 3:23 AMI'm having the same problem with Atheros 5007EGYes, other computers work fine under OS X and Ubuntu. No, resetting the router doesn't work.I've tried all security settings -- WPA, WEP, and open -- with no luck. It connects, works for a few minutes, and then stops working, despite maintaining connectivity.

Although a new Atheros WLAN driver was installed by Windows Update on August 11th the problem still exists. Sometimes after repairing the problems of the WLAN connection the Wireless Adapter connects to the Internet, sometime it does not.
The WLAN connection works fine with Windows XP on the same notebook. I guess it must be an Windows 7 issue.Friday, October 09, 2009 7:10 AMHello Alok, I have problems too with Atheros 5007EG WiFi Card on a Samsung R522 with Windows 7 Ultimate Evaluation.
The Atheros card is working without problems, say Win 7. WLans are found but there is no connecting possible? Win 7 updates till 09.10.2009 are installed.
Windows Vista works fine with this WiFi card, the only thing witch works fine...

Just bought a new laptop, and it came with this Atheros AR5007EG, and I'm experiencing the same problems as reported by the other users: i'm connected via wifi, and then I just lose connection, and go trough some trouble to connect it again. need to try to connect like 5-8 times until its sucessful, and sometimes it just lose connection again. the "sent bytes" under Status of the connection stays freezed, and then I see the "limited connectivity" triangle or it disconnects.
tried all the possible drivers, even XP and vista 32/64 older drivers, and no sucess. i'm really inclined to believe that this is an issue about windows 7 + this card. hoping that a solution will appear.
thanks.
Sunday, August 08, 2010 8:57 PMAlok,
I have been having the same issue with my AR5007EG network adapter. I am using a Toshiba Satellite A305D-S6848 with Windows 7 x32.
I have another laptop that is running Vista and my Wii that can connect to this router. They also maintain connectivity while my Toshiba is not able to detect any network connections.
I have resetted the router many times and it has not fixed the issue.
Here is the following output of the commands in my cmd.exe: please email me at nostuni83@gmail.com with steps on how i can fix the issue.

It was replaced with a Netgear N300 Router and will connect to the internet every time but will not share files with my other network machines. The other machines are a Dell Inspiron 530 using Win Vista and another Dell Dimension 8200 using XP SP3. The Vista and XP Desktops can see each other and the Win 7 Laptop and share files but it will not work the other way around. I have called Dell and Netgear and they tell me it's a Win 7 problem. The Netgear tech had me ping the machines from the desktops and they all pinged with no problem.
Please hlp me to find the solution so I can use my laptop on my network remotely.
Thanks,
Nick

C:\Users\Nick Arena>Friday, June 01, 2012 8:43 PMTry this:
1. Open Devise Manager (Start > Control Panel > System > Device Manager)
2. Expand the Network adapters, select the wireless network adapter and double-click to open a new window
3. Go to Power Management tab
4. Uncheck the box Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
Now you won't have the problem of losing net connection every few minutes.
Sunday, August 26, 2012 5:55 PMi have tested this, but my connection keeps dropping too. I have tested all the different signals on my router. Strange but when i use Ubuntu (same laptop) i have never any problems with my wireless connection.
Some one can help ??
