Offline folder sync problem

Hi,

I have SAMBA based NAS to store my files on. So far I have just used my LAN connected Windows 7 based desktop to access the files. Even in this setup, Windows will cache the files in an offline folder, but I have never bothered since I'm always connected to the server.

This weekend I upgraded my laptop to Windows 7 and redirected my document folder to the NAS. By this all my files should automatically be copied to the offline folder on my laptop which means I could also work with my files when I'm offline. The laptop is connected by WLAN. Once up and running Windows 7, I immediatly ran into problem with sync failures, indicating the files on the server were locked by another process. All subsequent attempts to manually force sync. ended up in similar problems, and just a fraction of my files were actually cached on my laptop. I have no such problems on my desktop, and all files are cached perfectly on the local disk even if really don't need it in this case.

After a couple of hours of troubleshooting I more or less gave up, but decided to test one additional thing. I replaced the WLAN with a cable. All of a sudden all problems were gone.! My first attempt to synchronize the offline folder succeded without any problem.

It is obvious I have some problem with my WLAN resulting in a major impact on the synch. protocol. I can copy files back and forth between the laptop and the server over WLAN without any problem, but it is not possible to synch. folders.

It seems like the synch. protocol is very sensitive for any network hickups.

If anyone has experienced a problem like this, I'm interested to hear about this. Any ideas what might cause the problem in more detail are also welcome!

Windows 7 RTM + ESET Nod32 = Same old memory consumption problem while downloading!

Hi everybody,

Back in June, I had asked a question here about increasing memory consumption, aka physical memory in use reaching over 95% in a matter of hours, while downloading many large files at broadband speeds on Windows 7 RC. You can find the original thread here:

As you'd see in the original thread, I found out that the problem was caused by ESET Nod32 4, which wasn't among the AV software supported by Win7 at the time. However, it now is, and the problem still hasn't been solved. I had been using AVG's free version for a while now, after I found out Nod32 was to blame with my problem and I extended my license for Nod32 when I saw that it made it to the list and installed it on my fresh installation of Windows 7 RTM.

Am I the only one having these problems with Nod32 on a 64-bit Windows 7 RTM system?

To test the problem, just install Nod32 and ANY download manager software (Getright, FlashGet, jDownloader etc.) on a Windows 7 RTM system download 10-20 GBs of data, downloading multiple files at a time. You must see that your physical memory consumption is increasing steadily (leave it be for a few hours and come back to observe the consumption)...

I do like AVG's free version, but I already have a paid copy of ESET Nod32 and I'm very used to working with it, so I'd love to see your results...

High CPU load causes WiFi connection to drop out

Everytime I open up a game or some other program that utilize my dualcore processors up to 100% for a period of 10 seconds atleast, my WiFi connection gets disconnected. For example from a game viewpoint, logging in doesn't work since my connection falls off from the increased processor usage. If however I alt-tab out of the game (minimizing it) after entering credentials, the game will not eat up as much raw processing power and I am let online - most of the time.

Still I suffer alot lagspikes while playing - the connection drops or nearly drops at times (especially loading screens or highly populated areas). Sometimes the lagspikes are severe enough that the connection totally drops and I have to relog again. I can circumvent this by only setting affinity of the other processor core for any game - and the disconnects never happend, but it really is far from optimum to run games with half the processing power available.

Would there be any way to give wireless higher affinity? Couldn't find anything relevant from task managers processes atleast - and that would have been easy fix aswell.

Network drive mapping before logon

Here goes :
I have a mapped Network drive on my win 7 system. I purposely choosed not to tick "reconnect at logon" cause I don't want the drive to be automatically reconnected.
Problem : at startup, Win 7 logins and all programs relying on the mapped folders are lost.
What I'd want : at startup, have win7 display a credentials input windows and wait until I input them or cancel before proceeding.

Windows 7 and l2tp, 810 error

The problem with the connection to l2tp, computers outside the domain. Used to set ipsec connection certified IPSec (Offline request). For the authentication certificate is used for smart cards for user domain. From Windows Xp connection is great, but on windows 7 connection fails with error 810. "Verify the name ..." disabled. Ran wireshark: vpn server sends its certificate, but not windows 7. What can be done, how to fix this error? Climbed all the Internet has not found an answer

Funky login problem with Domain Admins

Hi, I have a major problem here.

Before this weekend, I was running Windows 7 Ultimate RC2 on my laptop, it all worked perfectly fine in a domain setting untill a few weeks ago.

All of the sudden, I had to try login a douzen times with my domain admin account, before succeeding.

Then last week, I couldn't log in at all anymore.

Domain level "Administrator" account does work and I tried several local accounts and they work without a hitch too.
I changed my domain accounts password and set it to change password at login, and when I try to login like that, it does pass the login, giving me the change password screen, but again, when actually trying to change the password, I get the error that my original password is incorrect.

Leaving me again unable to login.

So this weekend, I installed Win7 Pro, brand spanking new, official release, in the hopes that it might have been something gunky with Win7 RC2.

I try to login with my admin account, same frigin problem all over again! Can't login with a set password, when forcing a change password, I get to the change password screen to get told my original password is incorrect.

Domain level "Administrator" and normal users are again still able to logon.

windows 7 cannot connect via wifi to my win2000 laptop local printer

Guys,
This new HP laptop previously had vista64 and saw my windows2000 local printer fine (\\clarion\domino)
clarion=win2000 laptop name
domino=hp b/w printer
tanfam=workgroup this new HP and my win2000 laptop are currently in.

Soon after i u/g to windows7 64bit, it broke the connection to my win2000 printer. Attempts to reconnect has failed. I've tried disabling Homegroup and all the permissions. The problem is at the verification screen to conntect to \\clarion\domino
For some stupid reason, its requiring a DOMAIN, well, both if these machines are NOT on a domain, its in a workgroup=tanfam.

Ive tried various iterations to log into \\clarion.

\\clarion\administrator, with its password and it comes back, wrong password. AFter doing this many times, i changed password on my win2000 and this still did not work.

I have the latest updates, i rather not go the tcp/ip route as that's confusing...i am able to ping \\clarion via cmd.

I just think windows7 sucks, should've stayed with vista64 as that was working fine. I might just revert back unless someone knows what to do.

Windows 7 cannot access shares on Mac OS X

Now...far be it from me to suggest that Windows 7 should have integrated network sharing techniques that go beyond Microsoft proprietary networking, but I am having a problem that I'm nearly fed up with, which is that even with Mac OS X's Samba support, I am unable to get Windows 7 to log in courteously.

Here is the situation so far (yes I have read the other posts!)

on mac:
smb sharing is activated
public folder is shared and policy is set
firewall is off
antivirus is off
little snitch is off
(i hate doing this because i like security)
WINS workgroup name is (let's say) "FOREST"
network username is (let's say) "forester"
network password matches windows computer

on pc:
folder sharing is enabled
folder i want to share is shared
group policy has been set to lm/ntlm, use vista if requested (what you said above)
firewall is off
antivirus is off
all of the network settings have been changed to allow a connection other than a "homegroup" for file sharing, and the workgroup name for the computer has been set to "forest"
network username is (let's say) "forester"
network password matches mac computer

additional troubleshooting:
win7 computer has been configured to send LM/NTLM, negotiate NTLM2 on request
128bit encryption requirement has been turned off

mac can now be seen! but not accessed.

the mac, on the other hand, can read and write everything on the win7 computer...it even has access to some things that I would prefer no outsider have access to...like the root user folder...

VPN Windows 7 and IM/ Messengers

Hi...

So this is the scenario. I have Windows 7 Enterprise (corporate image from my firm), and some additional messengers running like Skype which allows me to take conference calls outside my office network. The problem starts when I connect my VPN. Once VPN is connected, all my messengers like Skype / Google Talk automatically disconnects. And the moment I am disconnected from the VPN, and if these are still in the tray, they connect as if nothing happened. The IT in my firm is not going to support me since Skype is an external tool and they don't care anything about it. I spoke to one of my colleagues and they said probably it could be a port issue that VPN blocks.

Whats even more weird is ... VPN blocks my Firefox and makes me to add my firm's proxy address so that I can still connect to other web pages.

I am hoping someone could come with a work around for this kind of issue.

Windows 7 "Network Cable Unplugged"

I'm the "Network cable unplugged" problem with Windows 7, 64 bit.

I'm using the newest realtek drivers for my on board nic on an EVGA x58 mobo. My problem is a little different than most similar posts I've read, though, as I'm using a router and switch. This just started a few days ago, first I thought it was my switch. Nic lights were off on the pc and no activity was taking place on the switch.. if I plug the cat5 in straight from the router, I have instant activity and no problems. Sometimes if I change the port I'm using on the switch, it will mysteriously work but once after my computer woke from "sleep" the "network cable unplugged" message was there again. It's definitely NOT the switch since I've tested other devices in the same ports as the windows 7 computer. The switch is a Linksys 8 port gigabit.

The last thing I had installed before this problem started happening was Adobe CS3 suite and flash player.. I'm not sure if that's related. I'm going to try booting into safe mode with networking and see if it will work well with the switch.

I'm confused why I have activity while straight to the router and most of the time none (now) when connecting through the switch. Perhaps it's a matter of time before it stops seeing the router.

I'm away from said computer at the moment, but I will post more details about actual nic model later. The drivers being used are realtek's newest version. (I believe it's 7.3xxx) .. not sure off the top of my head.

1.) Add a (usb- connected) printer on your Windows 7 (Enterprise) with net use:
>cmd
>net use lpt2: \\Notebook\OkiML3390 /persistent:yes
(Check that everything is working here and the printer ist connected correctly)

2.) Start mstsc.exe on Windows 7 an connect to a Windows Server 2003 (R2) with the RDP Client. (Be sure that "ports" are forwarded/connected with the RDP Client Session). Log in as Admin on this Server.

3.) Test the tsclient ports on the connected Server 2003
>cmd
>change port /query

Net use lpt Ports are not forwardet here.

Wireless connection drops with Windows 7

I have been reading all of the forums trying to find a solution. I see that many people have the same problem but I don't see a definite fix. I found many suggestions but none of them seem to be a concrete resolution to the problem
I read uninstalling drivers and dropping the HOMEGROUP and all sorts of things...
I just installed Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade - 32 bit. And I noticed that while browsing the web I loose connectivity. I run the diagnostics tool and it tells me that it reset the adapter and I also reset my router but the problem continues. I noticed that A LOT of people are having and were having this issue with the Windows 7 RC as well
One poster was told to start a new thread even though his problem was identical to what we are all experiencing. He started a new thread and again i did not see a fix for him. I'm really disappointed I updated my driver and still have the same problem. All the other computers in my house running Vista and XP are fine so i know it is not the router. My laptop was connecting fine until I installed Windows 7
Can someone finally help?
I ran windows update today also but nothing has changed
I can connect fine but once connected, at random times the connection just drops
I'm not a computer techy so a lot of the fixes and info that I read went right over my head
CAN SOMEONE HELP IN PLAIN ENGLISH? WITH SO MANY RELATED TOPICS, YOU WOULD THINK THE ANSWER WOULD BE HERE SOMEWHERE!

internet after standby

i am running windows 7 rc and after coming out of standby i have trouble connecting to wireless networks most of the time i never have this problem when it is a wired connection but i disable the adapter and re-enable it, turn it off and on, as well as connect and disconnect, i have run the troubleshooting and it has not helped, i never had this problem until recently...

can someone please tell me how to fix the problem or if this is just a hardware issue...

Unable to use homegroup between two Windows 7 machines, although other network connections are OK

I have 2 Windows 7 machines, a DELL desktop with 32bit Win7 Ultimate, and a DELL laptop with 64bit Win7 Home Premium.

Homegroup was set up on the desktop with all libraries shared.

The laptop can see there is a homegroup on the desktop, and I have no trouble joining it.

The problem arises when I try to navigate through the Homegroup nodes in Explorer - both machines report "No other homegroup computers are currently available".

I've tried the troubleshooter from both computers, as well as leaving and rejoining the homegroup.

I can map UNC drives between them, and the laptop can see and playback from my "remote" Windows Media library on the desktop.

I have only Windows Firewall running on each machine. The desktop uses Windows AV, and the laptop uses McAfee AV. The McAfee firewall was uninstalled.

Both machines are time-synched to the same internet server.

Windows 7 RC - I can't change my network from public to work

After a lot of job, I connected my W7 beta PC with my XP PC, but when I upgrade to W7 RC, I am unable to do this.

I have two net adapters: one linked to the internet cable modem and it is OK (public network). The other linked with a switch but W7 assigned this as unknown public network and I can't change it to home or work network. In W7 beta I assign a work network and it worked.

Our company implement ipsec l2tp vpn with smartcard authentication to corporate isa server 2006 vpn server. Our solution works fine with Windows XP and Windows Vista, but with windows 7 we have a problem. When we try to connect from windows 7 workstation to our isa 2006 vpn server a strange error message popup, which states "The local Securiry Authority cannot be contacted". In isa server system log, we found following error message "The user ****** has connected and failed to authenticate on port *****. The line has been disconnected" and "The user ***** connected from ***.****.***.*** but failed ana authentication attempt due to the following reason: The supplied message is incomplete. The signature is not verified"

Windows 7 -- Not able to stream video or load web pages with intensive flash.

I have searched this forum for an answer. I upgraded from Vista Ultimate to Win 7 Ultimate. Previous to this point I could stream video and access websites with intensive flash (essentially any site with some sort of streaming video). I have a system with a ASUS motherboard, amd athelon 64 dual core and nVidia drivers for the onboard Nic specifically. nVidia also for the Video card itself. System is connected to a Netgear router along with 3 other PC's. Other PC's have no connection problem. Their OS's are pre-Win 7.

I tried some suggestions mentioned on this site. Upgraded Netgear router to lasted version of software. Connected directly to broadband modem. No change. Looking for other suggestion/solutions.

DNS stopped working after a month, can Ping, can recieve e-mail, other OS on same machine works....

Hi!

I have Windows 7 since a month. It was working nicely until 2 days ago.

I can ping other computers, can see others on the local network. Can get an automatic IP. MSN-testprogram complains about not getting DNS.

I think that is the problem. Have tried tips and tricks from the net but nothing works.

Have searched for solutions like open DNS (and tried), have reinstalled networkcard, and services but nothing works.

My other OS on the same machine works perfectly. BUT IT JUST A VERY SIMPLE ONE WITH JUST A BROWSWER, not like W7.

I have Win7 Professional, 32 bit, build 09.10.2009. ASUS PQ5 motherboard....

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Later today I did set exactly the same DNS and IP as my other OS, on the same machine, uses. I have tried a mix between static DNS 10.0.0.1 / 127.0.0.1 and automatic IP. DO NOT WORK. I have disabeled IP6 protocol. I have set other settings under advanced concerning DNS but no change. Sometimes W7 network diagnosis reports that it cant do anything and sometimes when I mess around with IP and DNS adress it says that server can't get DNS adress or similar. PUHHH. What ____ is this. After a month?? Are there some new buffers that gets overflow after a month? I keep the maching up and running 24H/7D. Flushdns do not help. I have removed the ticmark in the LMHOSTS-file, but no help there....

Windows XP Mode Cisco VPN client problem

I use the Cisco VPN client to connect to my corporate. After I upgraded from XP professional 32 bit to Windows 7 on 64 bit, the Cisco client would not work. I installed the Cisco VPN client successfully in XP mode and connected. However, when I try to configure Outlook 2003 in XP mode, the Exchange Server is not available and the program closes. The settings are exactly the same except for a different report about mailbox mode. Other than that, looks exactly the same

Unable to add domain users to Windows 7

Hi all,
I have a problem and wish someone can help.
I installed a Windows 7 (Build 7100) on a computer and have successfully added it to a Windows 2000 AD domain. I then tried to add a domain user to the computer as a Standard User. I did the following: -
1. Start Control Panel.
2. Select User Accounts icon.
3. The User Account window appears.
4. In the middle of the window, click Manage User Accounts.
5. The User Accounts window appears.
6. Select Users tab.
7. Click Add button.
8. The Add New User window appears.
9. In User name text box, type the domain username.
10. In Domain text box, type the domain name.
11. Click Next
12. In What level of access do you want to grant this user pane, select Standard user radio button.
13. Click Finish.
14. An User Accounts dialog box appears with the following message: -
The user could not be added because the following error has occurred:
The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed.

Does anyone know what may be causing this problem? Any suggesttion is appreciated.

Windows 7 Not Streaming Video

Upgraded from Vista Home Premium 64 to Window 7 Home Premium 64, and the first problem I've noticed is streamed video. I was actually watching a video, and afterwards I went to another video and that's when it wouldn't work anymore.

The website's video wouldn't work, but I thought it was the website that was linked to it, then I check other videos from other sources like youtube to find out they aren't working either. When I start a video it loads infinitely until I have to close the program. The same problem goes for both my Firefox and my IE, so I figured it had to have something to do with an upgrade.

Network Sharing : sharing [search folders] is kind of misleading

When sharing a [search folder] in Vista, Win7 and Win2k8, you think you only share 1 item, but in fact you share a whole path !

lets say I share [Recent Documents] in my [search folders] - whats actually being shared is the whole path to the directory:

\\<Computer>\Users\<User>\Searches

Why is this so ???

What I'd really like to do, is to make standard shared folders in my computer-root on the LAN... thereby enabling my WDTV-Live (Network Video streamer) to see files in that folder...

eg.

\\<Computer>\New Files of this Week\

when sharing my custom made searchfolder : "datemodified:lastweek name:*.mkv|*.wmv|*.avi"

Media Streaming Devices - add/remove

I removed all devices inside the "Media Streaming Options - for computers and devices".

Now I want them back ?

How can I get the devices on my network back in the list ....?

The only entry left in this table is: "Media programs on this PC and remote connections".

I want the other entries that were removed earlier today like my Laptop , PS3 ... etc back in the list

Windows 7 Networking Problems with Nvidia Ethernet NICs

I thought I would share a little fix for a problem I have been having with Windows 7 Professional, both RTM & Release.

I was having issues with Windows 7 intermittently dropping connection. After about 3 or so minutes, especially during heavy TCP activity, my NIC would loose the gateway settings and drop to a limited connection. Performing the built in troubleshooter would correct the issue, only to have the connection drop again within minutes.

After a little bit of research, it turns out that my NVIDIA nForce Drivers (the most recent ones from NVIDIA, and the Microsoft ones), were the source of this. I attempted to use NVIDIA's signed drivers and still had the same issue.

Turns out there is an issue with a driver setting in both that is causing this disconnections. If you go in to the driver settings for the NIC, and under the advanced tab there is a setting for Receive side scaling set to be enabled by default. By disabling this option, my network connection came back alive and has not lost connection yet.

Hope this helps anyone having this issue.

Hi, I cannot access my XP workgroup pc from my windows 7 pc. It says I do not have access, and/or permission to access the xp computers files. Can anyone tell me how to allow open sharing between both of the PC'S? Or how to set the permission? I have everything set to share on the network, no passwords needed, and the PC's are on the same workgroup.

Error 0x000006d9 when trying to share out a printer in Win 7 RC and printing to a Win 2000 Share

Win 7 sees all my printers just fine and print and function. But the issue is when I go into the Printer Properties, click sharing tab, and put a check mark in share this printer (and getting this issue on all printers) - click OK or Apply and I get the message of "Printer Settings could not be saved. Operation Could not be completed (error 0x000006d9)" and forces me to click cancel or uncheck the sharing option box to clear out of the properties. What needs to be done to work around/fix this issue?

Secondly - How do you setup printing in Win 7 RC from a printer shared on a Win 2000 Pro Box? - It seems to time out and says the connection is unavailable or busy please try again later (not able to repeat this issue on a XP machine).

Attempts to change from workgroup OAKLEAF to join domain oakleaf.org for a new Win 7 Prof VM fail with errors such as "The semaphore timout period has expired." The Win 7 VM is using DHCP and its reservation shows VMNAME.oakleaf.org. Other computers on the network (except the DC) appear in the network window with Network Location: oakleaf.org and Workgroup: OAKLEAF. I've upgraded from Vista to 7 and since then my wifi connection says I do have internet but... I connect to skype but I cannot connect to Msn Messenger, Yahoo Messenger nor can I navigate with any browser.
If I connect directly to the LAN, not thru the router, then it cannot find the ip address...

Any idea how to solve this problem? I am working now with an old laptp running XP and does not have any problem! These new OS, vista and 7 only gave me trouble! (I upgraded from Vista because I was having so many problems that thought that 7 would be better but... even worst!)

Accessing Mac OS X Shares using Windows 7 Home Premium Gold Release

If the following key is added with a DWORD value of 1, it allows user access to Mac OSX shares under Windows 7 Home Premium. This version of Windows lacks the secpol.msc add in to MMC 3.0 The DWORD key to add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LmCompatibilityLevel.

Verified working with Panther 10.3.9 share.

DNS-lookup fails on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

I have installed Windows 7 Professional x64 on my Dell Inspiron 531. The OS is from MSDN and is the RTM-version and my network card is a nVida nForce.

The problem I have is that sometimes (pretty often) i can not load webpages and when I look in the eventlog I get his message:
Name resolution for the name [URL] timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

I search for some answer and found out that this seams to be a pretty common problem for 64-bit Windows 7. I tried a lot, I changed my ISP DNS to openDNS, I inactivated my virusprogram (Nod32), I uninstalled my nod32 but nothing works, the error keeps coming.

Can someone please help me!

Update: I found out that RSS on nvida-card can cause trouble and disable it by running this command, but it didn't help (i read it in another post on this forum)
netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled

Teredo for Dummies

I'm sure there are a lot of folks out there like me who are coming across Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface for the first time...I've read on this forum enough to know basically what it is, but when it gets into the DOSspeak, beyond the basic netsh commands, I get lost. Googling and Bing'ing for information just yields a lot of puzzled posts, a few whitepapers, and little usable info--and a lot of what's out there is contradictory.
I know Teredo comes into play when one is behind a home router, as I am, but I am puzzled as to why it never popped up when I was running Win 7 RC--or XP, for that matter.
It makes me wonder if has appeared now because there is a way to make use of it after all, and I'd like to know how to tell. I've found the MS article on netsh, but it also says "you are running a different version of Windows and this may not apply to you" and points me to th eWindows 7 solution center--where ther is no mention of Teredo.
So--how do I determine if I should try to enable this component?
If I should disable it, which is best--disable in Device Manager?
                                         --disable using netsh interface teredo set state disabled
                                                                       or netsh in 6to4 set state disable (as found in Microsoft Answers forum) or does it matter?

Is there a current FAQ somewhere that I've missed?

Since its return Teredo isn't interfereing with my connection, but I don't like those yellow exclamation points and error messages in Device Manager, and I feel like I ought to do something about it.
However, if I disable Teredo now, how do I know if things change somewhere down the road and it could be used? Sorry if this is a stupid thread...thanks in adbvance for your info and your patience.

is there any way to disable the Stealth mode "feature" in the Windows Vista (Seven, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2)? Here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd448557(WS.10).aspx the MS says: "Stealth mode is enabled by default", but nothing about disabling. This behavior is against RFC and causes some serious problems with security scanners installed in our network. So, is there any way of using windows firewall and being RFC compliant?

WPA and WPA2-Enterprise connection problem

Couple of days ago when i was logged to my university network it suddenly dropped connection. Since then i cannot connect to wifi nor WPA2-Enterprise nor WPA-Enterprise. Wifi itself isnt a problem because my friends can connect without problems. I already talked with administrators of network and im sure that configuration is good. I had no problems with connection earlier + i have no problems to connect my home networks that works on WPA-Personal. Main problem is that when i try to connect to WIFI (which Signal Strengh is good) it isnt asking for my login nor password just drop error after few secs.
My wifi adapter is Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG and i already updated driver to ver 13.0.0.107 which didnt help. My windows ver is Windows 7 Premium 32bit.

Ask if You need any additional info if you are willing to help me solve my problem.

Edimax software CD killed my Windows 7 radio

I bought a brand new Edimax nlite wireless nlite mini-size USB adapter for my home wireless network. After applying the Edimax CD software the Windows 7 wireless radio was completely killed in such a way as even an uninstall of the CD software and attempted reinstall of another wireless USB adapter would not work. The wireless radio could not see any networks at all. Unfortunately the only solution available to me was a fresh install of Windows 7 with the new Edimax USB wireless adapter connected. This worked flawlessly. Ok, now to my question. Does anyone know what registry entries the Edimax software killed or changed to permanently disable my wireless radio? I'd like to know how to fix this should it ever happen again. Oh, by the way I tried a Windows 7 repair install but that did not work and neither did a restore point.

Network connection keeps dropping randomly

Have upgraded to Win 7 Home Premium, and our network connection keeps dropping randomly.
When it does, I can reconnect promptly without any problem.

I've told Win 7 not to turn off the network adapter's power.
Internet Options has been told not to shut off connections.
Any idea what I should look at or check next?

It's an HP Pavillion a1730 with an onboard (Marvell) NIC, a Dlink Router, and an ADSL connection.
It worked fine under Vista Home Premium before the upgrade.

I would like to find some simple software with a gui interface like Serv-u or bullet proof that works on windows 7 but not for ftp instead I wish to install webdav or a webdisk server, is there any software out there?

For the client is guess you can just map a drive ot the server address.

Connecting to the Internet on a wired shared network

Does W7 need to be configured to connect to the internet using an "always on/up" connection? Or is it as simple as plugging a cable from the W7 machine into a working router that has other machines already in session with the internet? I'm migrating from XP to W7. XP requires a new network connection be configured for an internet connection that is always up and does not need signon credentials. I can't find any reference to this kind of connection in W7, hence the question. TIA for your help.

Network security key mismatch, wrong security type detected (WEP instead of WPA)

Hi,

I installed Windows 7 ultimate 32bits on a Vista based system (HP Slimline s3400f) with a new hard drive (clean install), but I cant get the WPA-Personnal wireless network connected. It was working fine with Vista.

My router (Linksys WRT160N, firmware v1.02.4-CA) is set to WPA-Personnal as security type with AES encryption (also tried TKIP, same issue...), but my wireless adapter detect a WEP network security type. When I try to enter my WPA security key, i receive the "Possible Security Key Mismatch" error message.

I tried to manually create the WPA Wireless connection in the Network and Sharing center, then i received the error message "The setting saved on this computer for the network does not match the requirements of the network".

The wireless adapter is only B/G capable, so I also tried to change the router "Network mode" (which also support N) to Mixed-B/G, or G-Only, but the problem remains the same.

When i downgrade the router security setting to WEP 128bit, everything works fine, so it might not be a wireless adapter driver problem. Could it be an adapter config problem? I didnt modify the default adapter setting so far...

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
