Copy and Paste issues is Windows 7 - clip.exe missing from system/32

I suddenly have issues with copy/paste functions. I can select "copy" [or cut], but when I want to paste (into anything... Word, Excel, Browser, etc.) the "paste" is not highlighted on the drop-down menu as an option.
At the advice of some other forum, I searched the system/32 for clip.exe or any clip-related item that I can find. There is an application called "clip" - but not clip.exe.
I've tried:
1.Doing a system restore - I apparently don't have any restore points on my 3-yr old computer (including factory defaults). Nothing.
2. Searching the internet for anyway to repair Windows 7. Came across a similar forum that suggested I scan my system using command prompt sfc/scannow. I did that and it "did not find any integrity violations."
I am at a loss. I was ready to use my recovery discs that I made when I purchased the computer, but that is not an obvious process when system restore can't find the disks.
Any help on the copy/paste would be greatly appreciated! You don't know how often you use it til it's gone...
Also, instructions on restoring my HP dv6 to its factory settings using the back-up disks would be helpful.

Monday, January 23, 2012 12:07 AMI should also mention that I did numerous virus scans, deep-system scans, registry repairs, etc. It was after a deep system scan using "Advanced System Care 5" that I downloaded from CNET that this seemed to start. Maybe it wiped out something, or I inadvertently gave it permission to access the Windows files? (I didn't think I could do that...)

I think I might be having issues with the synaptic driver... the mouse buttons on the touch pad are not allowing me to drag and open windows. Also, I cannot drag a file across my desktop and place it in a different folder... it says the file path is not found for the file I'm trying to move.
Clipboard or touch pad? Or both?

Actually, the driver re-installation only fixed the issue temporarily. The cut/copy and past issue has recurred and I haven't figured out why. If anyone has any additional ideas to try, that would be great. Frustrating!

UPDATE -
I found this link that reports cut/paste issues with Adv System Care 5, which is where my problem was (I think). The ram settings were clearing the clipboard. I deselected, and the paste seems to be working again.

Glad to hear it - I haven't had any problems after disabling the Iobit clipboard cleaner... what a pain! You should be all set if that was your issue, too - I've been doing spreadsheets all week and am good to gobjj15843

Could you unmark this answer, please? The driver was not the issue, it was the Advanced System Care 5 - the RAM cleaner was clearing my clipboard before I could paste the content. I marked the answer below, with a similar post from another user - the solution is working well.
thanks!

This was the solution for me. I had tried many (so called) solutions and none of them worked. If you have any software which returns more RAM savings, you should check the settings in that software. Advanced System Care 5, has a setting of clearing the clipboard which it implements immediatley after copy or cut, and I shall be letting them know of this profound error.- Proposed As Answer by Julian Clayton Saturday, February 18, 2012 10:05 PM

Sunday, June 03, 2012 2:52 AMGlad to hear that this worked for you. I know that "stumbling" across an answer in a post like this can take some time! I was happy to find the other post myself. Now, if I can just get my Marvell driver to work! It's always something...
