Installed microsoft security essinetial
- Now my computer locks up on boot up.
I tried going into safe mode but it will not uninstall. it says that it must be in normal mode.
i also tried to go into msconfig and not let it start at boot up but i can not verify because it locks up. i get no movement from mouse. even tried using a cabled mouse but still no go.
i had no problems until i installed mse.
i am typing in safe mode now.
any help please?

as of now i have left it uninstalled.
never mind. it was conflicting with zone alarm.

This issue could be caused by a software compatibilty issue.
You can choose run Windows Backup to restore the computer to previous backup point.

I had the same problem, twice! First, with a laptop it locked up after installing MSE and every time I rebooted it would lock up within the first minute or so of use. I finally got so frustrated we backed up what we could in Safe Mode and re-installed Vista.
Today, I installed MSE on my Vista desktop and it's now locking up too! It rendered the computer un-usable. Did anyone figure out exactly what's going on here? This is crazy. I'm a big Microsoft fan and I've heard good things about MSE AV capabilities but this is unacceptable for production software.
This is obviously not an obscure, unlikely problem as many people are experiencing it and I have experienced it now on two different PCs within the last few months.
I read the suggestion that it might be a conflict with Zone Alarm and uninstalling Zone Alarm might solve it. I have two responses to this:
1) Uninstalling the firewall is not safe. Installing one security feature should not require uninstalling a completely separate feature.
2) How can I uninstall it if the PC locks up within the first minute (usually within 15 or so seconds) after boot and it won't uninstall in Safe Mode?

I had the problem but it was conflicting with zonealarm.
After I uninstalled zonealarm in safe mode everything worked fine.
My answer to your #1) I just reactivated windows firewall. Everythng is just peachy.
#2) As I said in my case I just uninstalled zonealarm in safe mode. Through add/remove panel.

I really do like MSE. It seems to find things the others (zonealarm and avg) could not.
