Microsoft Security Essentials is now Final (non-beta) and now available for download to Canada (&elsewhere)! This is a FREE, high quality anti-virus offering from Microsoft. It is what has 'replaced' OneCare & was code-named "Morro". It has been beta w/ limited availability for a long time. I have been following the reviews carefully; there has been a large quantity of feedback & all very good! OneCare, MSE's parent & mentor, was good but, availability of a top-notch, free A-V is a goal MS has been working on for a long time. It, also, guards against spyware/malware & MSE updates (itself) automatically. I heartily recommend this product! It is available for XP x86, Vista/Windows 7 x86 & x64.

    Install, enjoy.

You say it updates automatically, but I have had to update manually because after a day passes there is no update and when I do it manually, the update gets installed.

Sleep mode prevents the updates - for days sometimes: http://www.h-online.com/security/news/item/Microsoft-anti-virus-software-dawdles-over-updates-838203.html

I don't use sleep mode, and I have not seen it update automatically. I wait one or two days and do it manually and it updates.
