I have upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. Now when I click on a hyperlink in an email in Outlook I get a message "Operation cancelled because of restrictions in place on this computer. Please contact system administrator"  What do I as system administrator need to do to change this restriction?

    Hi,

Here are some suggestions you can try:

    1. Reload IE settings

    a. Click Start menu and type "inetcpl.cpl" in the open box, and then press Enter to open the Internet options window.

    b. Switch to the Advanced tab.

    c. Click the "Reset…" button to reset Internet Explorer settings.

    d. Click Reset to confirm the operation.

    e. Click Close when the resetting process finished.

    f. Open Internet Option again and in Advanced tab, please also uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions" option in the Settings box.

    g. Click the General tab, click the Use Blank button under the Home page area

    h. Click Apply, click OK.

    i. Switch to Programs tab, please click "Make default" button if it is not grayed out and check the "Tell me if Internet Explorer is not the default web browser" option.

    j. Close Internet Explorer window.

    2. Perform a Clean Boot to check the result. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue.

    3. Temporarily uninstall all third party browsers and open antivirus program to do a complete scan.

    What's the result?

    Thanks,

    Novak

Thanks for this. No change I'm afraid.

I think it is an Outlook?windows 7problem rather than Internet explorer. Problem equally applies tohyperlinks in Outlook to email addresses.

The last time I saw this message appear, it was because a user had downloaded Chrome and set it as the default browser. The only way I was able to rectify the issue was by modifying the appropriate settings in the users registry, but I must point out this was on Server 2008 running IE7. It may be worthwhile trying out the steps in this article in case they might help - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310049

    Hope this helps :-)

Thanks but Chrome has never been near the machine. Was runing IE8 with no problems before upgrading to Windows 7. It is the upgrade that has caused the problem.

    Have solved the problem.

Right click on the Outlook programme file and then left click on properties. Click on compatability tab. Click on worked OK in Vista. Click on run programme as administrator.
