    Hi,

Can anyone confirm that the UE-V agent uses a 'local site' based search for the settings template catalog path, when its configured to use the SYSVOL share?

For example, our XML templates are stored in our <a href="file://\\\SYSVOL\Templates">\\<Servername>\SYSVOL\Templates share but as we're implementing this in a global company, we want to make sure that our global clients search their local Domain Controller rather than going across the WAN, where share was initially configured.

    Thanks!

That is correct, if you have properly configured Active Directory Sites and Services the clients do communicate with the domain controller/SYSVOL share closest to you. That is if you point it to \\domain\sysvol.

Thanks Andreas.  I don't suppose Microsoft have this referenced anywhere in their documentation on the UEV client?

I haven't seen SYSVOL mentioned anywhere in the documentation but now that I Think of it I would recommend making sure that your SYSVOL is replicated using DFS as that will with 100% certainty honor the sites and services configuration, contacting the Closes DC/SYSVOL.

DFS-N by itself should work. Not sure about using the SYSVOL. Not sure if that would be a good idea (as you probably would not want to have redirected folders or roaming profiles in SYSVOL as well.)

I would add that you would want to architect this solution to put the UE-V settings on a DFS namespace independent of other types of share data that you may want to access offline. If you deploy UE-V and using Offline Files as the sync method and you place the settings storage location using DFS in the manner of \\SERVER\ROOT\UEVSettings\%USERNAME%\SettingsPackages

-But- then you have other shares off that same root – they will not necessarily be available

Deploying UE-V with default settings will pin \\SERVER\ROOT\UEVSettings to CSC (Offline Files Cache.)

You will then want to configure the Offline Files slowlink policy to set a high latency threshold (like 1000ms) on the path \\SERVER\root so that it won’t go offline but the DFS directories beneath it that are pinned into the Offline Files cache (like \\SERVER\ROOT\UEVSettings) can go offline when the user is working on a slow network.
