    As a dev I normally group my explorer detail view by file type. This way all the config files, assemblies, executables etc are grouped and ready to be copied, just by clicking its group header to select all related files.

    In beta build 7000 one could hold Ctrl and select many groups to select all the related files.

    IMO since RC build 7100 just the group that first is clicked selects all related files and each subsequent click while holding Ctrl on a new group has no effect ( the related files in that group aren't selected ).

    Is there any option I missed to get the behaviour back
    - that one can choose group by, sort by, stack by  from the list view column header context menu as it was in beta?
    - That one could hold Ctrl and select as many groups as necessary to select related files ( for a copy operation of instance )

    One alternative might be to add them all to a library folder.

    Hi Mark,

    Maybe I missed something but it seems to be that the behaviour in terms of selection groups etc is the same in library folders, rigth?

    Yes, multiple selection of groups is no longer a feature of Win 7. You can, however, 'add to library' any number of groups from various locations and groups, to then display with no grouping in another library folder. These could then be all selected for some action. Library listing, much like the 'playlists' of Media Player, are not 'copies', but 'pointers'

    We can answer just about any question, but when you ask 'why', only the developers who actually made the decision know for sure.  All anyone can do is speculate.

    The "why" would be rotten design practice. Computers are made for sorting, how could a designer completely remove the most basic means of sorting lists? Just horrible.

    Multiple selection of groups is missing in RTM as well. To me it's a big question why they dropped this handy feature out of the RC Version. It was in place, working without any issues. Hmmm..

    any kind of power toy around filling this gap`?
