"Strange folder behaviour in left pane of Windows Explorer" is locked.   Win 7 is over a year old now.  And yet that bug is not fixed.   I work on computers almost every second of every day and I cannot STAND this bug.  The only fix leaves graphical glitches.  I WANT this fixed or I will push Apple to my thousands of customers.  I prefer Windows but if this is the type of quality and a nasty annoying bug like this not fixed after all this time...  When customers give me a choice of "What do you think.. should I go with a Mac or a PC" I will stop doing what I have done for years and that is... "I prefer the PC... (and I list my reasons)".

I'm done.   I will not support this company anymore.  Since I can fix both Mac, Win, and Linux I'm going to start pushing Macs.

It may sound silly and an empty threat especially over a scroll problem when selecting folders but when you work on computers hundreds of hours every month for 18+ years... the little things grate on you.  And rub against you.  And make your blood boil.   I'm sick of trying to navigate around quickly in Explorer only to have to stop after every click... and RE-FIND my folder I opened.  Come on.   Only 7 has this super annoying bug.  And from this day forward until this stupid annoying bug is fixed... every customer that asks me whether they should go with a PC or Mac... I'll be pushing Macs from now on.

Either way... I get paid and best of all.  I'm not supporting a company that couldn't give 2 craps about such an annoying and frustrating bug.  It took you (Microsoft) YEARS to fix the copy bug in Vista which was completely unacceptable.  Maybe when your marketshare drops low enough you'll start to care again.  And every machine I work on.. I will go out of my way to remove any trace of Bing and install google.

As of now... I feel completely left out.  Stuck with a product I can't stand mainly due to this 1 bug that is in my face every second of every day.  I move a PILE of files around my massive network.  I currently goto a XP machine to do most of my work.  I bought 1 copy of Vista, and I have a Win 7 Ult here on my gaming machine.  This bug just drives me CRAZY!  I'm so mad...  you have no idea...

Fix it or lose even more customers.

    Neat animations, derosnec.

Perry, you should know that the freeware program ClassicShell's ClassicExplorer component can now enable a scroll bar for the navigation pane.  It also helps correct some of the vertical scrolling problems where items jump out from under your mouse.  If you remember to keep the Network root closed up when you close Explorer, the problem becomes virtually nonexistent.

Check out ClassicShell.  It really does have its heart in the right place, and you need not change out the Windows 7 Start menu with it if you don't want to (I didn't).

The following steps will fix the left pane like you want:

    1. Go to Control Panel, All Control Panel Items.
    2. Select Folder Options
    3. From the General tab, check the box next to "Automatically expand to current folder".
    4. Click the OK button.

    Hope this helps,

    DJ War Eagle!

Hey there,  thx for the tip on Classic Shell.   I did install Classic Shell ages ago (after my rant posts however).  I was actually looking for a complete replacement of Explorer since I was so upset I was actually going to uninstall 7 off my machine and stumbled onto Classic Shell much to my delight.

Classic Shell makes me about 80% happy.  Sadly when you use OPEN it hasn't hooked that yet.  Well, since the last time I was there anyways to download Classic Shell but I can live with OPEN defaulting to the Win 7 bug method.

It still makes me loathe Microsoft that this kind of crap gets left in software and it according to their postings is not a bug.  And the fix on Classic Shell is very intelligently done.  They just hook a couple of places, change a bit of stuff, and voila.  Fixed.

When 3rd party people have to write software around crappy buggy OS that should NEVER have been released in that condition just burns my blood.  I have lost faith in Microsoft.  I couldn't care less anymore about this company or any big bloated uncaring company that can leave such an annoyance in their software when some 3rd party can come along and fix it with little effort.  Sadly, what is left?  Juggernaught Google consuming and dominating everything they touch?  Ugh... no thanks to them either.  They are getting too big too fast and don't seem to care about privacy and other non privacy issues I see cropping up in various places that makes me a tad scared of what they might become in the future.  But, if I had to chose, MS or Google... it would be Google.  Hopefully they can write an OS one day that will give Windows a run for it's money.  It will be tough - Windows is VERY polished except some horrifying cosmetic bugs (scroll bug).  Everyone else has light years to go before they can compete with Windows in polishedness.  :)

I really wanted to like 7.  It's superior to all the MS os's that came before it... except this one in your face bug.  Which Classic shell has mostly pushed to the periphery.  Still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.  Its like companies don't care anymore.  Into the ground for all of them.  As for converting customers to Apple... that's been harder than I thought unfortunately.  They don't want something new.  I've only been able to convince about 20% of my customers over the past while to buy a mac.  While I dislike mac's OS (not a fan of Ubuntu either, not polished enough), and I dislike Mac OS... I loathe Windows more.  And Win 8 looking to be a huge dissapointment...  maybe this will be the starting death knell for Windows.  Who knows.  Too little too late.  Hopefully I can keep selling Win 7 till Win 9 comes out if it's different.

Well, im tired of complaining on company websites...

It's like yelling into the wind till you're hoarse.  No-one hears.  No-one cares.  Nothing gets done unless it affects the bottom dollar.  Maybe one day some MS CEO will be looking over the ruins of Microsoft and wonder where they went wrong.  I would tell them. 1 customer at a time over decades of frustration.
