To help community members troubleshoot issues efficiently, sometimes we need to collect related files (such as Event logs, Network traces, Setup log files, Screenshots, etc.) to perform a specific analysis.

We can simply use SkyDrive, which is a free storage on Windows Live, it’s easy to store and share your files and photos with almost anyone. To make the steps clear, I would like to share the detailed steps for:

    1. How to use SkyDrive to upload collected files?
    2. How to post screenshots or other pictures in forum threads?

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

    1. How to use SkyDrive to upload collected files?

    1) Open the SkyDrive site.

    2) In the Sign In page, if you own a Windows Live ID, please type your Windows Live ID and Password to sign in; Otherwise, you may click Sign Up to register a new one. See the following screen shot.

    3) After signing in Windows Live, click Create folder.

    4) Name the folder and edit permissions to share with relevant person.

Important Note: You can share the folder with Everyone if there is no private/sensitive information (such as the screen shot of a prompt error message). To so so, simply select the "Everyone (Public)" option in the "Share with" box. Please refer to the following screen shot:

However, for private information that you do NOT want to be accessed by everyone, it is recommended to share with specified individuals. To do so, you can expand the "Share with" box, choose the "Select people..." option, and then type their Live IDs in the Individual box. Please refer to the screen shot below:

    5) Drag the previously collected files directly to the Skydrive folder. For example:

    6) Click Upload.

    7) Click on the uploaded files and tell us the URL.

    2. How to post screenshots or other pictures in forum threads?

(This section updated on 1/16/2012 to reflect changes in Skydrive. Thanks to Jeeped on the Microsoft Answers forums)

    1) Please use the above method to upload the picture files in advance. Then, in your Skydrive space, Right Click the picture and select View Original. Press Ctrl + A, or Right Click and select Copy, to select it.

    2) Press Ctrl + C to copy this picture.

    3) Navigate to your post textbox, and press Ctrl + V, or Right Click and select Paste, to paste the picture there.

Then, the picture will be successfully inserted in that thread.

Requires Internet Explorer, which is a problem for me as I use SeaMonkey as my primary browser.

I did just try it with IE and was able to login and get to SkyDrive okay though. Not a biggie, just thought I'd mention it.
After installing the Upload Tool, the interface for uploading images to SkyDrive is very, very nice, just drag and drop. I like it.

I prefer to use the method in the office 2010 beta. It's pretty sweet.
Gotta love skydrive, it beats the competition.

    Here's instructions for office 2010 http://www.groovypost.com/howto/geek-stuff/save-share-microsoft-office-2010-files-to-skydrive/

    Thanks!

Actually SkyDrive works in Firefox (SeaMonkey is based on FF), just the drag-and-drop interface doesn't work, only the normal browse-for-and-upload 5 files at a time interface. I like the drag-and-drop interface, is there a way to port it to Firefox?

    Actually, I've been using http://www.uploadscreenshot.com/

It generates a permanent link, and HTML & BBcode that I can post anywhere. It's a pretty nice tool.

The links in this post point to http://www.skydrive.live.com; however, recently, individuals have not been able to get these links to work. Rather, it appears the links should be http://skydrive.live.com. So, in the event that the link to SkyDrive itself does not work, please try http://skydrive.live.com.

    Hi,

Thanks for mentioning the change of link. I've already edit the link to use http://skydrive.live.com. Thanks for your contribution again.

If you have a lot of files to upload and don't want to use a 3rd party desktop client, the you may be pleased to hear that you can

upload data through as many different tabs as your machine can handle, and with as many browsers that you have installed.......and you can also use multiple machines as well.

I got these 3 bsod's in the space of 6 mins. I have just replaced the RAM, however, and not had a crash in over 30 mins. Can anyone advise if the RAM is the source of the issues before I buy some to replace the old?

    Any help would be great!

    Cheers,

    Al

    What is this SkyDrive Thing?

Instructions I got step 1 and 2 how to log on

But after that I am lost
create new folder I don’t see a create folder like the screen shot?

    The next screen shot is
share I don’t find this box I found Add Folder and did that but no window to
    share with: EVERYONE (PUBLIC)

There is a share on the page
but it’s an address box I have to type something in I don’t know what?

if I drag a file into the folder
I loose the SkyDrive page it changes into my computer and I am in the folder
the file is in that’s great I see the file I want to put in the folder now what
all I can do is close the window there is no Upload or cancel buttons?

How are you going to get
    these files?

I did add folder and it
    creates a new folder

No dialog box that has Share
    with

I clicked my new folder and
on rite side there is a share I typed everyone (public)

    But I get error

Dale (or any other moderator) - could you update the posting to:

    1. show the current interface for SkyDrive? There's nothing that looks like "Dale's SkyDrive" (or username's SkyDrive) in the current interface. The following screen shot is what it looks like while I'm logged in and the 'new folder' link now appears below "SkyDrive | MSN".

    2. explain in more detail how to get the URL for an uploaded file. You wrote "Click on the uploaded files and tell us the URL". But after I upload a zip file, then click on the file, IE offers to download the file. Do you mean we should use the URL that's in IE's address bar at that moment? One of the questions/replies above says "on the right side you see a box Internet address" but I don't see anything like that. Right clicking on the file doesn't offer an option to copy the item's address. A screenshot would help clarify this.

    3. explain the difference / advantage of using the method described in your posting for inserting pictures by comparing it to the "insert image" button in the editing window for postings. "Insert Image" is the right-most button in this screen shot of the top of the editing window:

    4. add a reminder that this thread isn't the place to look for help on problems with a poster's computer.

    Thanks, Mike

i'm running into some bsods on my new system... i read the dump files adn they seem to be pointing towards ntkrnlmp.sys... so my guess is some other driver might be the one to cause ntkrnlmp to crash... i think the answer is in the recent dumps

If the mod here asks to view a log file on SkyDrive do you make the folder public or private on SkyDrive and if the latter what email does one use?

This one crash was Related to bcmwl6.sys Broadcom 802.11 Network Adapter wireless driver. I would re-install the newest driver available and if no current driver is available you can install a previous driver in compatibility mode

To Run in compatibility mode do the following:

    Right click the installer>properties>compatibility>chose OS

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows?SignedIn=1

    Thnx ZigZag!

I've got Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter installed, driver version = 5.100.82.112, driver date =26-10-2011.

Where do I find an update? Windows update says the device is working properly and the driver is up to date?

On internet I keep ending up on strange, unthrustworthy paysites looking for the most recent driver...

Do you know where to find it, of where to look for it?

You may want to look here. I dont know which specific mobo you have http://websearch.broadcom.com/search?q=broadcom+wireless+driver&btnG=Search&entqr=0&output=xml_no_dtd&sort=date%3AD%3AL%3Ad1&client=default_frontend&ud=1&search.x=0&oe=UTF-8&ie=UTF-8&proxystylesheet=default_frontend&search.y=0

Even if there is no newer driver you need to re-install the current one in compatibility mode. The current one was both not installed that way and probably corrupt (which is likely causing the crashes)

If more crashes occur please upload the DMP files

You should ask a new question,

This thread is to show you how to issue files/ screen shots not meant to be a proxy for asking a question,

    Cheers.
