    Hello Forum,

    We recently upgraded to Windows 7 and have a .iso image file library with more than 10,000 image files.  The file "Comment" properties was used to store the files part number and md5 checksum value, windows 7 does not show the comments any longer and we can't add a tag to these files. So where did this data go and how do we now display them?

    Is there an alternative edit property that we can use besides the file name to hold this type of file information that users can search on and that will display?

    Hi,

    Based my research and test, ISO type files may not be able to add or edit theirs comments. Even they have comments from Windows XP or the other version system, the comments cannot be displayed also. Such as TXT type files. I believe it should be by design.

    Hello Kim,

    Thank you for your reply.  Perhaps there has been a misunderstanding.  In Windows XP, 2003, 2000, Comments can be added and edited from the file properties, see screen shot.  Thru Windows explorer user had been able to see the comments.  In Windows 7 they cannot.  These comment values are still on the ISO files, but how can someone see them in Windows 7?  Is there an alternative way to view these?   If this is a limitation in Windows 7, we are trying to figure out another way to search on and view these specific file properties so that users fulfilling CD requests can locate the correct ISO image.  This method worked perfectly for us for years and then came Windows 7......  :(

    Hi,

    Yes, I agree with you. The comments are still included in ISO file. However, they cannot be displayed in Windows 7.

    Does anyone have any work around to this issue?  CMD line options, VB solutions? Any suggestions of utility applications / tools to use that will display these comments etc...   Perhaps we'll just need to keep a old Windows XP box around for users to access to find parts (files)....  gurrrrr thanks again MS!
