When I click the "browse for more pictures" in the change picture console to change to a custom account picture, nothing, no response. Like I haven't clicked. Drag and drop displays a red X sign when hovering anywhere in the console.

    Hi,

    Thank you for posting.

Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following:

    1.    Create a new user account and check if it can change the account picture.

    2.    After testing on my side, when I click "browse for more pictures" the following folder will be opened:

    C:\Users\Public\Pictures\Sample Pictures

Please check if you can access this folder directory and check if there are any corrupted files.

Just for a test, you can copy all the pictures to a temporary folder and remove the “Sample Pictures” folder. Then, create a new folder named “Sample Pictures” under “C:\Users\Public\Pictures\” and copy the pictures back. After this, check if the link "browse for more pictures" can be opened.

    Hope this helps. Thanks.

Thanks for replying, I tried the test you proposed. It didn't work. I turned indexing back on (I had turned it off, obviously) thinking it would help, no dice.  Also, the new account, tried this too. Nothing. I am stumped.

I activated the guest account, logged in, went to change the account picture. It works there, not my administrator account.

    I'm more stumped.

     Daikous,

So you cannot access the folder at "C:\Users\Public\Pictures\Sample Pictures"?

I can navigate there through windows, however,  I can't get to it from the change picture link in the UAC control panel to change to a custom picture.

I can do this from a guest account.

    Yeah, the same s. h. i. t.  happens to me, in this webpage: " http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/46/1/Browse-for-more-pictures-link-in-the-User-Accounts-applet-does-not-work.html#postedcomment ", I found this:

"" Click Start, Run and type:

    regsvr32 nusrmgr.cpl

Press Enter, and you should see the following message:

    DllRegisterServer in nusrmgr.cpl succeeded.

Re-open User Accounts applet and try changing the picture now. ""

It didn't work for me, I did just that and a message with the heading "RegSvr32" appeared saying: "The module "nusrmgr.cpl" failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files. The specified module could not be found."

But you can try to see if it works for you. But anyways I solved my problem, the "Browse for more pictures..." s. h. i. t.  still doesn't work but what I did is that the picture I wanted, I putted it in: " %allusersprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\Default Pictures " which is the folder that holds all the default pictures except the one for the guest account. So then I oppened the change the picture console again and now my picture too appears in the defaut pictures to choose from as an option. I don't know if always is like that but at least in my computer it appeared as the first picture but just like a blank square, but when I selected it and set it as my account picture it appears just fine as it is, not like a blank square. Hope this does it for you, good luck.
