Windows Evolution - Brilliance in Action!

Tuesday, January 13, 2009 6:38 AMI configured my XP Pro system to dual boot Vista Business, and had switched over to Vista within weeks of its release. Greatest OS on the planet - hands down. Now I have a new computer running Vista Ultimate, dual booting Windows 7 Beta. Everything is pointing to it being even better than Vista. So I expect to follow the same route as before; switching to Windows 7 shortly after its release. My teenager got the old XP/Vista system. With an option to boot either, he routinely chooses Vista over XP... and he's not an enthusiast like myself, just a gamer.
Despite all the hype that Windows 7 is the Vista that should have been, it is much more like an evolution of Windows computing than a better Vista; it is freaking awesome! Additionally, not only is it more advanced than OS X, it is far superior in look and feel. I mean really, Apple has boasted 6 OS X versions since Windows 2000, with only incremental changes to the look and feel - very similar Aqua interface, does different stuff. I have a Mac, and a Linux box, and Windows ME, 98, 95, and 3.1; neither of which hold a candle to Vista. If you compare the difference between Windows 2000, XP, and Vista, you can see real evolution not only in functionality, but in look and feel as well. Thankfully however, Microsoft didn't do away with the best of Vista (just yet) in the process of evolving Windows. ;-)
Keep the cool UI look and feel, it's brilliant!

Tuesday, January 13, 2009 7:58 AMI heartily agree, only with me, I don't setup a dual boot system, I just upgrade my copy. For example, I took this route:
Upgraded XP -> Longhorn Beta -> Vista Beta -> Vista
Upgraded Vista -> 7 Beta
I mean, I love the fact that you can drag and drop taskbar icons around, and rearrange them, very good for organising tasks.
I am also surprised at hoq quickly Microsoft have released this awesome beta, and, because this is the best beta we have seen in a long time, we can expect the final release to be ten times better than this!
Bloody awesome xD

I would compare W7 Beta with Whistler. I installed several Vista betas, and they where so buggy I switched back to XP and never came back until a few months after Vista was released. Now I gave it a try with W7, and I can say so far is a great beta build. I might stay with it and upgrade my home PC as well. Or maybe dual boot, since I have plenty HD space back home.
BTW, I'm running a dv2625 HP Laptop with c2Duo and 2GIG ram.
Only hardware not recognized is the fingerprint reader, but I bet if I look hard, I'll find it. Never used it too much, though.
