I'm running Win 7 Pro on a i7 620M with 8GB mem.
I installed XP Mode months ago and all was working fine until now???
Today it won't boot but gives the above message continually, giving me the Login window over and over in a loop but each time with the Error message???
Also the Shut Down button is greyed out and the Cancel button (at the Login) doesn't work???
Very frustrating. Spent 4 hours on this. not getting anywhere.
Can anyone help?

Try deleting the "Windows XP Mode.vsv" file in the folderC:\users\[your user name]\appdata\microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\VirtualMachines.That should then allow XP Mode to start correctly.

Thanx Bob, but something was missing. When I got to:-
C:\users\[your user name]\appdata\..... there are 3 folders "Local" "LocalLow" and "Roaming" All three have a Microsoft Folder in them.
I found what you wanted me to find in:-
C:\users\[your user name]\appdata\Local\microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines.
I deleted it as per your suggestion and...... Hey Presto...... IT WORKED!!!
Thanx again Bob You're a Legend. ; ) Now back to work.

Thanks Bob.
Your solution worked great for me. What does the Windows XP Mode.vsv file do?

You're welcome!
It's basically a hibernate state file, just like hiberfil.sys on the host if your host can hibernate. It's a dump of memory and state that can be restored when the "machine" is powered on again. Sometimes Windows Virtual PC gets stuck in an indeterminate state and you basically have to pull the plug by deleting the .vsv file and cold boot the machine, rather than letting it restore the hibernate state.
