Thursday, July 16, 2009 11:38 PM
Install fails when trying to install one of the drivers - vpcgbus.inf. I tried installing the driver manually and I get this error:
Fatal error during install. The device status in the properties of the devices are:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
Any ideas?
Below is the relevant part of the log file from the MSI install

Friday, July 17, 2009 3:13 AMCan you manually uninstall the VPCBus device in the guest, and try installing integration components again?

Friday, July 17, 2009 3:30 AMWhy don't you use the Virtual XP provided by Microsoft? IIRC it already has the integration components already installed.

I tried that multiple times. I'm going to try safe mode today. -

I need to use the volume licensing media my firm owns. -

Wednesday, July 22, 2009 9:27 AMModeratorHi,
Is there any software installed on XP, other than in-box default components ?
I presume that the Uninstall->Restart->Install steps are not working for you.
Thanks

Hi,
Install/reinstall does not work. This is our standard image. We have approximately 25 applications on our image. The same image works fine with Virtual PC 2007.
Is there any software installed on XP, other than in-box default components ?
I presume that the Uninstall->Restart->Install steps are not working for you.
Thanks

Friday, July 31, 2009 5:58 PMModeratorBeaum,
Can you share the values of the following registry key from the VM:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E97D-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
I would be interested to know if there is a LowerFilters value in it.

Sunday, August 09, 2009 2:06 PMModeratorThanks Beaum. Assuming you are still facing the issue could you run msinfo32 in the VM and save and share the output of that with us? Please send it to wcvdata@microsoft.com. Please let us know if its ok to contact you via email too for faster turn around time.

- what language is the XP VM
- Is the temporary directory in the VM in a non-default location
- Can you mail us %temp%\VPCICInstallLog.txt for the failed install attempt -
Monday, August 10, 2009 10:36 AMHi,
It would be nice if you could also share out information about the image creation
I understand this a Volume licensed image of your corporation. But what is not clear to me is how you arrived at this image
the options i see are
1. You got an XP SP3 VL image and you installed it in a VM
2. You got an XP SP2 VL image you installed it in a VM and upgraded using Windows Update to XPSP3
3. You got an XP SP3 VL VHD in VPC 2007 with Additions installed and you moved it to WVPC
4. You got an XP SP2 VL image in VPC 2007 which you moved to WVPC and then tried to upgrade/install
Kindly let us know if any one of the above is correct. If not, let us know the way you arrived at this VHD. It will enable us to setup and in-house repro and reach a resolution quicker.
Appreciate you response

Tuesday, August 11, 2009 6:39 PMModeratorBeaum,
Looks like you are on Windows VPC Beta. Can you try Windows VPC RC bits that got released recently? You can download Windows Virtual PC RC from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx. Please uninstall the Beta release of Windows Virtual PC before installing RC. To uninstall go to Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features and click on 'View Installed Updates'. Then remove 'Windows Virtual PC (KB958559)' and restart when prompted.
After installing WVPC please try installing the ICs that come with the RC release and let us know.

Thanks Beaum, you have hit an issue with WDF. There is a simple workaround though. Just delete %windir%\system32\drivers\wdf01000.sys and retry the installation.- Proposed As Answer by AshishMishra Saturday, August 22, 2009 4:23 PM

This was crazy but after so many approaches and attempts these steps are working
1. Unistall Virtual PC Components
2. Remove the device that is unrecogonized from the device manager
3. Rename the following 2 files
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\wdf01000.sys and
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\wdfldr.sys
4. Restart the system
5. Install the Integration components
6. When the hardware wizard comes, select to manully to install, enter the path in the first option - C:\Program Files\Virtual PC Integration Components and click next. it should recogonize the unrecogonized device
7. Restart and enable the Integration features
Refer to this for deleting files 2nd step

I can not delete
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\wdf01000.sys and
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\wdfldr.syswithout being a TrustedInstaller - ACCESS DENIED

Thursday, May 26, 2011 7:16 PMYou are a life saver. I had the same issue. At very last step my installation was rolling back. ... following your steps fixed the issue.... thank you so much...

Wednesday, March 21, 2012 10:40 AMI had the same situation and found complete solution
You need to remove:
1. %windir%\system32\drivers\wdf01000.sys
2. %windir%\system32\drivers\wdfldr.sys
3. All oem(00-хх) files from %windir%\inf
Only after that it can be installed with success (in my situation)- Edited by Александр Сикорский Wednesday, March 21, 2012 10:42 AM
