Issue with Installing Windows XP Mode on Windows 7 Enterprise
- I am running Windows 7 Enterprise ever since it became available on our TechNet Download. It is not a beta or RC.
When I try to install the XP Mode, it tells me that it only supports Windows 7 (the same message comes up when I try to install the XP Mode RC-edition). How can I solve this?
Answers
- Resolved the issue by editing the MSI-file with Orca and removing the launchcondition.
Odd that Microsoft decides to use VersionNT=601 instead of VersionNT>=601.
I wonder what VersionNT is showing in my laptop. Nice thing to do tomorrow, so when I find out, you'll be the first to know.- Marked As Answer byNicholas LiMSFT, ModeratorMonday, November 30, 2009 3:36 AM

- Hi, Are you installing the correct version of Virtual PC to your W7 enterprise
Please check link below,

Slan go foill, Paul Hi,
As we know XP Mode supports Windows 7 Enterprise, so, please download via the site artiste1 provided and install it again to see how it works.
Meanwhile, please also check the following:
System requirements for Windows Virtual PC
If the issue persists, please also capture a screenshot on the error message for our further research:
Capture a screenshot
==============
1) Press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) on your keyboard.
2) Click the "Start" menu, type "mspaint" in the Search Bar and Press Enter.
3) In the Paint program, click the "Edit" menu, click "Paste", click the "File" menu, and click "Save".
4) The "Save As" dialogue box will appear. Type a file name in the "File name:" box, for example: "screenshot".
5) Make sure "JPEG (*.JPG;*.JPEG;*.JPE;*.JFIF)" is selected in the "Save as type" box, click “Desktop” on the left pane and then click "Save".
Please upload the screenshot to Windows Live SkyDrive and share its link with us.
Hope this helps. Thanks.
Nicholas Li - MSFTI'm sure i've selected the right options, but I'll try it again. Downloading as I type this :)
In the meanwhile, i've checked the buildnumber of my OS: 6.1.7600, so it is the RTM-version.
I've made sure that Virtual PC was uninstalled before installing XP Mode.
Perhaps additional information, I got this message a number of times too when trying to update the drivers for my laptop.
Machine-specs: Lenovo Thinkpad Z61m (type 9450, model 3HG) 2GB memory, 80Gb Harddisk Intel Centrino Dual Core.
Uploading the screenshow was not possible (skydrive error), but it said only: Windows XP Mode is supported only on Windows 7 Operating System

Thanks in advance
Dennis- You should uninstall the virtual machine clearly following below steps
To Uninstall Windows Virtual PC -- Open Control Panel (All items view), click on Programs and Features, click on the View installed updates link in the left pane, then select Windows Virtual PC (KB958559).
Then Go to download the Virtual Machine and XP-Mode from this link http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx
Install the Virtual Machine first, after restart the PC, install the XP-Mode. Virtual PC was already uninstalled.
According to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx, you should install XP-Mode first and THEN the virtual machine. Yet you state the other way around. Am I missing something here?
However, I gave it a try but I still got the same error-message.- How about your Windows 7 Enterprise version? is it RC or RTM?
I'm running the RTM-version.
- Do you try to disable anti-virus software when installing the XP-Mode?
I have not face this problem even I installed around 10 windows 7 with xp-mode.
I suggest you reinstall the windows if it is possible. - Since I have several other installations that do not recognize my installation as being Windows 7, I will assume that reinstalling my laptop will be the only solution.
Thanks for all your time. - Resolved the issue by editing the MSI-file with Orca and removing the launchcondition.

- BTW, extra information pulled from the registry:
BuildLabEx: 7600.16385.x86fre.win7_rtm.090713-1255
CurrentBuild: 7600
CurrentVersion: 6.1
EditionID: Enterprise
[EDIT]: My VersionNT-value is set to "700" instead of "601". Very strange. Anyone knows if/how/where that can be set to avoid conflicts in the future?
Still: problem would not have been notices if Microsoft used "VersionNT>=601" instead of "VersionNT=601", as the describe in their compliance-documents :)
