Windows 7 XP Mode Help
- I was running windows 7 RC and have just updated to the new release. Both versions are Ultimate 64-bit. The RC ran windows XP mode just fine. I have done a fresh install and downloaded the two components for the program. I ran the first download, the XP Mode. Then I tried to run the second download. It asks me if I want to run the update KB958559. I select YES and then accept the agreement. It reaches about 95% and then fails. From my understanding, this update checks to see if I am running a copy of Windows 7 that is compatible with XP Mode. I don't understand what is going on. Thanks for your help in advance.

- Does it give any error message? Is there anything in Event Viewer?
KB958559 is for Windows VPC, it will work on any version of Windows 7.

- I've looked at the CBS log file but could not find anything important. I just tried again and the same thing happens. It's not an error while downloading, it's an error while installing. The event viewer gives this:
Setup Error:

- Bob,
I wish I would have read your post before I fixed the issue. I would like to have known if that tool would work. My solution was to open a command prompt as the administrator. Then I ran sfc /scannow. When that completed, I rebooted the machine. Then I placed the Windows 7 DVD back in the drive and ran an in-place upgrade so I would not loose my settings/data. After the upgrade finished, I rebooted the machine. The update KB958559 finally installed. I rebooted the machine again and now Windows XP Mode opens. It had an error with integrations after I installed an update in XP Mode so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. It's working fine now. Thank you for the help and suggestions. - You're welcome.
The important thing is you got it going!
