Hi,
One of my client has Windows xp database application. The application was originally written for Windows 98 systems. The application is client server type that sends \ save data on SQL server. The application is main blood life line of business and they like to use this on their new windows 7 desktop. Company has plan for application upgrade but they will start in 2013. The developer of application is unknown and company did not contact developer for four years. So we do not have choice to sit with developer and rectify or update components in his application. The application does not have setup program so we can install application on test system. The client has image of machine, that image has software installed . If any issue occur with application, client simply reimage whole desktop. That one single application that is main Business application is not running on Windows 7.
We first tried to find setup file for applicaiton (unsuccesful)
we were successful to transit other applicatons on Windows 7 from Xp
Now problem application .. it is incompatiable with windows 7. When we execute mentioned application on Windows 7 desktop, the application display screen splash and disappear.
We decided to use Windows xp mode. We converted one of their existing desktop to VHD. The problem is Image of their Windows xp machine with application is more than size of vhd Windows xp mode support. I saw message that windows xp virtual mode only support 1456 kb (I think could be less or more than that . Actual message is not in my head)
now is there any workaround we can host size bigger than that.
Please also guide me here, Am I correct that virtual pc is for hosting windows 7 based virtual machines?
Am I correct that I selected Windows xp mode (As I am under impression that virtual pc is for Windows 7 and Hyper V based vitualization is only available in Windows 2008 or up)
Do we have any imaging option that will allow us to deploy 32 bit Windows xp image to 64 bit systems?

Hi,
If Windows XP Mode still cannot run this app, you can try to use Windows compatibility mode to run:
1 Right click the app and click “Properties”
2 Turn to Compatibility tab
3 Select the compatibility mode to Windows XP
4 Click “OK”
Then run the app again for test.
Hope that helps.

Hi,
What the version of this app? And Windows XP mode cannot run 64bit app also. If Windows Compatibility mode and Windows XP mode cannot run this old app, you’d better contact the app manufacturer for further help. May be they have any update package for compatibility issue.
Thank you for your understanding.

Thanks for help Leo
We removed all extra things from computer and reduced hard disk space. Then we created vhd of pc and it is working good now :)
Now windows xp mode can play software without any problems.
Please also guide me here,
Am I correct that virtual pc can only host windows 7 based machines?
We can not use it to host Windows 2003/08 / xp devices

Virtual PC will run most any 32bit version of Windows, although many are unsupported they will work.
You can install Server 2003/2008 work, as does Windows XP (like the XP Mode VM included with Win7Pro and higher).
Unless you mean that you can install Windows Virtual PC on a 2003/2008 server OS, then you are correct, Windows VPC is a feature of Windows 7.
For Windows XP/Windows Server 2003, you can install Virtual PC 2007.
