    Hi,
I have XP Mode running on Win 7 Ultimate.  It's mapping my DVD drive as E:, when it should be D:.
Is there a way to fix this?

    Thanks,
    Charles

By default, XP Mode has one vhd. Inside the XP vm, the one vhd maps to drive C. A virtual DVD maps as D. In the settings for the XP vm, you can map DVD drive D to any optical drive or optical drive emulator on the physical machine. Within the vm, you can use Disk Management to change drive letter assignments. I have done this.

On the physical machine, since you have either two drives or two partitions, they take up drive letters C and D, leaving the DVD drive to take letter E. You can change DVD drive letter assignments.

    Thanks for the replies John,
Apparently, everything is now mapped correctly.  I think it's either the software (ConvertXtoDVD) or a missing driver that's spoiling things.
WMP in XP mode can find discs in the DVD drive, but can't play them due to codec issues (nothing new), so I guess ConvertX's failure to find the DVD drive is not the fault of XP Mode.

    I appreciate the help,
    Charles

Open disk management in XP  (XP Mode) then right click on  the drive and change the letter

If you want to swap drive letters D and E, you'll need to make one drive letter something completely different. This will work:

    1. Change drive letter E to F.

    2. Change drive letter D to E.

    3. Change drive letter F to D.

This drive letter reassignment issue also occurs with physical machines.

    Still no joy.
For the record, on the physical Win 7 machine, I have physical HDD's C:, and D:, with the DVD drive as E:, and a network drive Z:.
In XP Mode, 'My Computer' now shows only one local HDD, C:, a non-existing floppy drive A:, and the local DVD drive as D:.
It shows Network Drives C:, D:, E:, and Z:.  They are mapped correctly.
XP Mode/Tools/Settings shows only one HDD and only one DVD drive, E:.  Can't change that to something else, no other choices available.

I used Disk Management to change drive D: to E:, but the program that I need to use to burn DVD's still isn't detecting ANY DVD's.
I've updated my program to the latest release, still can't find a DVD burner.
When I insert a disc in the DVD drive, it mounts inside E:, which is correct.

    I'm stumped.
