-
Monday, May 18, 2009 5:44 PMHi everyone,
I'm also unable to install update Windows6.1-KB958559-x64.msu (windows virtual pc beta). The install finishes with the following message: "The following updates were not installed: Update for Windows (KB)".
My system info is as follows:
OS: win7 64-bit rc1, downloaded from ms website
Processor: Intel Core2Duo E8200 @ 2.66 GHz with Intel Virtualization Technology enabled from bios
RAM: 4GB
MB: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4, rev. 2.0
There is an additional update that is not installing: KB970420. It fails with error code 80070308.
Please let me know if I should send you log files or any other info.

Wednesday, May 20, 2009 10:48 AMHi,
Can you search for vpcshellreg.exe in %windir%\winsxs folder?
If its present, then do the following:
Open command prompt As Administrator, and navigate to the folder in winsxs containing vpcshellreg.exe.
run: vpcshellreg.exe vmcprops.propdesc -register
And let us know the output.
If its not present in winsxs, let us know.
Thanks. -

Wednesday, May 20, 2009 7:55 PMHi,
I have the same problem when installing Virtual PC. Setup cancels at about 90% and reverts the changes. vpcshellreg returns the following:
[VPCSHELLREG] [Info] The KnownFolder is registered
Thanks for your help

Thursday, May 21, 2009 3:28 PMModeratorStephan,
On the Win7 host machine could you Start->Run->ncpa.cpl and then for each network adapter that you have do right-click, Properties and give a count of number of entries you see in the table above [Install] [Uninstall]?

Also send us:
- value of 'SetupExecute' registry key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager. You can use regedit.exe to see the value.
