You know about the name of a "PC" and you are able to remote into the PC, you type in the username/passwrod, and you're in, on a remote desktop.
Question: How can you detect if you are logged into a regular PC or if you are logged into a Virtual Machine running on another PC?
Although a somewhat humorous situation, the question is serious. Thanks!Tue, 01 Dec 2009 23:00:39 Z2009-12-02T01:23:11Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprovirt/thread/48a8c8f9-0c81-4f7d-900e-f2fabd1198c0http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprovirt/thread/48a8c8f9-0c81-4f7d-900e-f2fabd1198c0Cavaldihttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=CavaldiV2P: VHD to HDD
Is there any way to recover a Bootable VHD to disk?
Restoring from WinRE or the Backup and Restore Center (BaRC) doesn't work as they only acknowledge BaRC VHDs.
Wed, 02 Dec 2009 00:02:00 Z2009-12-02T01:21:30Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprovirt/thread/98a86f92-406a-45b7-ae0f-1227886639f9http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprovirt/thread/98a86f92-406a-45b7-ae0f-1227886639f9visaveeeehttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=visaveeeeVirtual PC KB958559 RTM install failed - Start Menu/Program Folder Permissions root causeSeems like a lot of people have been experiencing issues installing KB958559 in Win 7 RTM. My issues was that after installing in windows; rebooting and finalizing the installation it would "fail" at about 98% and then rollback.

In the event log I was getting "
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070005: Update for Windows (KB958559)."

Upon digging in the "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log" log I found that the issue was a permission error in putting the final shortcut into the Start Menu \Program folder. I don't know how the permissions got screwed up, but my username was the only one with access to "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs". To resolve this I cascaded the permissions for the folder one higher down to the program folder. You could probably also temporarily just add full access to 'everyone' until the install works.

The actual log file error incase anyone is searching is this:
009-10-09 23:01:55, Error CSI 00000020@2009/10/10:03:01:55.393 (F) CMIADAPTER: Inner Error Message from AI HRESULT = HRESULT_FROM_WIN32(ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED)
[
[19]"Access is denied.
"
]
[gle=0x80004005]
2009-10-09 23:01:55, Error CSI 00000021@2009/10/10:03:01:55.393 (F) CMIADAPTER: AI failed. If this is a windows-add on to the system, why Windows don´t manage to load it again,when seeing that I don´t connect with the
wifi-card which is working- i.e. repair it automatically? Is there on net the possibility to download this virtual software again, or must I reinstall the whole system from secure dvd´s (in bios-set in: boot from dvd-drive(dvd´s) ? The ordinary win- reinstalling didn´t get this virtual wifi function back.

This is my first experience with wifi-cards and a notebook and I´m a bit dissatisfied. Fe. windows could have told me (when I was deleting the virtual function or "card") that don´t do it or refuced to to it when there is a physical wifi-card installed and it possibly needs this virtual one. Or do as it was in OS2 (IBM´s): repair the problem automatically...

Hopefully I can get this problem solved by minor installation- don´t like the long time and effort to install the whole system (win 7) from the scratch from sec-dvd´s.

yours AoS47Sun, 29 Nov 2009 17:16:23 Z2009-11-30T11:12:43Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprovirt/thread/108e0f9e-b243-4a11-823f-0c1aa8dab503http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprovirt/thread/108e0f9e-b243-4a11-823f-0c1aa8dab503RalphJhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=RalphJInstalling Microsoft Office 2003 into Virtual XP ModeI installed Office 2003 in Windows Virtual XP Mode and it clobbered Windows 7 Office 2007. I mistakenly allowed the default location for Office 2003 and it turned out to be the same folder as Office 2007. I am not real technical so just assumed the default location was correct. I have since uninstalled Office 2007 and Office 2003 and re-installed Office 2007. I decided to install my scanner software into Virtual XP Mode and it ran successfully. It created a folder within Windows Virtual XP and everything is fine. When I insert my Office 2003 CD it does not create a separate folder. It wants to add the Office 2003 in the same folder as Office 2007.

I would appreciate any help anyone can provide. Thank you................Ralph
Sun, 29 Nov 2009 20:24:32 Z2009-11-30T07:52:22Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprovirt/thread/cfbd029a-a6ee-46c5-85a4-f083fcc60890http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprovirt/thread/cfbd029a-a6ee-46c5-85a4-f083fcc60890Setsunaaahttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=SetsunaaaWindows Virtual PC - Windows 98 installation failsI've tried it a few times now: Windows 98SE installation in Windows Virtual PC fails.
I boot from the CD (.iso), fdisk + format the (virtual, 9000 MB, dynamic) HDD, copy the windows 98 folder on the virtual HDD and boot into DOS from the HDD.
Then I go to the win98 folder and start setup, it does look good in the beginning, but it fails after the reboot with the "wait 15 seconds to reboot or click here to reboot now"
