Locked Windows 8 To Go is Slooooow

I bought a fast USB stick (transcend) USB 3.0 drive 32 GB and installed Windows 8 to go on it using these instructions:

    http://www.triballabs.net/2012/03/step-by-step-guide-to-install-windows-8-to-go-on-a-usb/

The first time I booted into it it was slow and I expected that.  It took several hours though which was weird.

After that I've tried booting into it several times from the same machine and it boots but it is so slow to use it is agonizing.

I have tried it on other systems as well with the same results.

Is there something I should do differently so this is actually usable?

    Thanks,

    Terry

Could you possibly be plugging it into a USB 1.1 port -- that would be
    VERY painful!

I have an old Pentium D PC that I tried using Win8 to go and the first
boot was real painful, but not quite hours, less that 2 if I remember.
And this was using a slow USB 2.0 USB flash drive...

    Thanks though.

try an external USB 2.0/3.0 HDD and not an USB thumb drive. The USB sticks are currently incompatible wit Windows To Go.

What really??  Didn't they hand USB sticks out at the build conference with WTG?  Not to mention the hundreds of articles on it.

    Yes they did.

I think you should go with USB 3.0 stick. Like some others MS product, you need high-end hardware to use the latest technologies that they are releasing, WTG seems to be part of them.

Bah sorry, I miss read your port. I though that you were using an USB 2.0 stick on an USB 3.0 port :(

Anyway, can you benchmark your usb stick? There are many software around to try it.

Those USB sticks where MODIFIED sticks with a preview firmware which lets Windows think it is a fixed drive (HDD) instead of a removable stick. That's why you should try an external HDD ;)

I did some bench marking on the "Fast" usb stick I bought and it turns out it must be bad because the speeds were horrible.

I bought a new 64 GB 200 RW very fast USB 3 stick and tried again using that and it works great.

I guess it helps to make sure your stick isn't bad.

    Thanks,

    Terry
