I downloaded Windows 8 into my Laptop, but could not install for reasons-1) the memory in Drive C: is 12 gb only; (2) tried to install iso in USB pen drive(of 8Gb), it already has 3 gb files which I do not need,& can be erased. But they are marked as "Write protected". So I am unable to either erase the files or format the usb, it gives the message, contains 'write protected files' Any solution to 1) repartition the HDD with more than 16 Gb in drive C:  (2) to remove Write Protectiuon" in the pen drive.

You need at least 16 GB to install Windows 8 (for 32bit) in your hard disk, I suggest run disk clean up and defragnment to free up some space. Regardin to the USB that is protected, you should check it model or manual it might be a key that you press to make it protected and unprotected.

Also, consider running Windows 8 CP as a VM. Its very convenient to use virtualization for the evaluation of operating systems and applications that run on those systems.  Once you are done with the eval, you just delete the vm.  No other painful work is needed on the host system.

Windows 8 CP can run on VMWare and VirtualBox.
