hello! i've been trying to get windows 8 to work off of a VHD since windows 8 is not supported with dynamic hard drives yet, but once i try to open up the VHD, it gets a error saying "VHD_Initalization_boot_failure" is their any way i could get it to work? and why could this be happening?
do i need to enable something? because i remember installing something called hyper V on my windows 7 so i can run a virtual machine, do i need to enable that for windows 8? or is their some other work in hand here?

Monday, April 16, 2012 9:46 PMAnswererWhat is the VHD size? The VHD gets expanded during boot if you use dynamic growing VHDs. In this case the host must have enough free space to handle the growing. The "VHD_BOOT_INITIALIZATION_FAILED" error is mostly caused by not having enough free HDD space.

1. yes the virtual chip is enable, so idk if that's causing that to crash windows 8 or something. either that or I did install windows 8 clean on another computer, but tried installing the ATI radeon driver and that screwed everything up, so it could be the ati card in the other computer i'm trying to boot it up with, both of them being laptops with interegrated laptops
2. its already updated
3. tried analyzing with windows 7 and it seems to be the right configuration
4. didn't try defraging laptop, but I don't know if that will help
however i'm using the VHD from the virtual machine, and that runs with the virtual machine, but I want it to run at full power, so that's why I want to install it by VHD on the computer mentioned above because of the fact that windows 8 NEEDs dynamic hard drive support
but idk how to customize the max the vhd can go or something

STOP! He doesn't want to use a VM! He want to do native VHD boot!
But I think the issue is the dynamic disk. VHDs only seem to work an basic disks.I remember 1 user here in the forum whochj had the same issue with Windows 7/2008R2.
Why do you use a dynamic disk instead of a basic?

Thursday, April 19, 2012 10:44 AMDrive dynamic in w7 / w8?... for lack of space!.The dynamic disk does not increase speed or performance. It is clear that they need native VHD boot. That is the reason for my answers!

Friday, April 20, 2012 3:04 PMwell what i'll try to do is reset my laptop to factory settings, and try installing the VHD again using the dispart method *that with either the installer or the AIK* because i don't know if 8 will work on a dynamic disk
-
Wednesday, May 02, 2012 4:34 PMan update on the situation, i've factory reset my PC, and when i try to install windows 8 by virtual machine, then porting it to the boot menu, i'm getting a verfication error

what is the complete error message?"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code"

Thursday, May 03, 2012 4:48 PMi've deleted windows 8 before i got a chance to read the error, but it had to do with a signature error, which i'm figuring i need to install windows 8 either the AIK way, or use the installer and the CMD to install it to the VHD

With the DP I've use the WIM2VHD script to convert the Install.wim into a VHD:
http://archive.msdn.microsoft.com/wim2vhd/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=2603
Run this in Windows 7 to get the VHD and next add the VHD to bootmenu. Mount the VHD with Diskmanagement MMC and run this command:
bcdboot V:\Windows
replace V: with the drive letter of the mounted VHD."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code"
