Yesterday, I start to install Visual Studio 2012 RC for doing some test with own Metro apps
The installer starts to download the needed files but it took so long because the network in here (at work) is very slow
So I must go to home but I left the PC ON so next morning (today) it was done
The surprise becomes today when I check and the PC was suspended, so the download stop
This remind me the WiFi thing in Windows Phone. If there is some downloading then it doesn't power off the WiFi when you turn off the screen
Would be nice if Windows 8 detects network downloading and doesn't goes suspended, or at least a setting

Actually you can change settings. Check the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" in the properties of the network adapter in Device Manager. If it does not help, the problem is the network adapter which is not fully compatible. You need to install Windows 8 compatible driver in this case.

I am a little confused by the term 'suspended', what do you mean "suspended" is the hang / freeze or your pc just enter the sleep state? if your pc hangs/freezes you can check the event log through the Event Viewer to find out what is actually happening on your pc, if your pc is just entering the sleep state you can use the previously Arthur Xie recommended by.- Proposed As Answer by Dg. Are you proposing that Windows should sense network activity and keep itself from entering sleep state, much like moving the mouse around would? Think carefully about that - it's not going to work as well as you think. All kinds of apps do network I/O all the time the computer is on. How would it know what is one that you started vs. some maintenance activity that's normally occurring in the background.
If you were to find a way to configure it to remain awake whenever there was recent network activity basically your computer would just never suspend.
For things to continue to work while you're away, you really have to disable the power-saving suspend state entirely and just leave the computer on.
