    Hi,

I have a clean install of Windows 8 RP.  I get extremely high CPU usage when streaming movies on IE 10 Desktop.  I have screenshots in my SkyDrive folder.  Any help to troubleshoot would be great.

    PC Details:

HP Pavilion a6357c, 6GB Ram, Nvidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 GPU

Let me know if I need to run any programs that can provide more information.

    Thx

Capture a xperf trace (Here I wrote how to do this:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w8itprohardware/thread/c3f06d6d-d7ba-4427-9ceb-05e88a5e31e9) and upload the trace here.

ok, the function ieshims.dll!NS_CreateThread::ThreadProc is the hotspot which causes 40% of the CPU usage. The name ieshims looks like compatibility settings. Press F12 and make sure no compatibility settings are applied and that the site runs in native IE10 mode.

This function next calls a lot of Silverlight calls (agcore.dll). Does silverlight support HW acceleration? if yes, try to figure out if your NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 offers HW acceleration for silverlight.

Compatibility settings have been updated to use IE 10 (no compatibility mode), but didn't change a thing in terms of performance.  SL does support HW acceleration, I tried toggling that option on/off but didn't do a thing for the performance.  Any other ideas?  I might be SOL with the configuration.  Win8 runs just fine, but unfortunately streaming video is proving a challenge on my hardware.

ok, this seems to be an issue that others also have:

Silverlight 5 doesn't appear to do HW acceleration of Netflix content

    Thanks Andre,

I will have to wait for MS to fix the bug, but appreciate all your help.

    Thanks
