I am running a Windows Server and for the past 6 months all backups were running fine. Last week I began to see failed backups giving the error code 2147942406(Invalid Handle).
I checked the network connection as I am backing up to a different server and all is fine there.
I tried restarting the server and doing a backup as soon as it rebooted but still recived the error.
I am using the built in backup.

Please do the following actions:
1. Restart the server and check the condition again. Does this action resolve the issue? If no, go to the next step...
2. Run chkdsk /f C:, restart the server and see the result. Does this action resolve the issue? If no, go to the next step...
3. Run vssadmin list writers command and report back the result (please do not modify the output when pasting them here).
4. Run vssadmin list providers and report back the result (please do not modify the output when pasting them here).
5. Run diskpart and then in the diskpart> prompt, run list volume and report back the result (please do not modify the output when pasting them here).
6. Run vssadmin list shadowstorage command and report back the result (please do not modify the output when pasting them here).
7. Instead of targeting the backup operation to a remote location (storing backup on a remote shared folder), specify a local volume and test the result.

Hi,
First of all, please advise me that Whether you backup your data to a network place? If so, you need to check your Network status.
In addition, Do you have any third-party backup utility installed on your computer?
Follow the methods listed below:
Method 1:
If you’re trying to back up to the private network using wireless connection, I’d suggest you to try and use a wired connection instead and try backing up the data.
Few users have fixed the issue by using a wired connection to back up the data over a network.
Method 2:
Uninstall the third-party backup utility, if any and check if that fixes the issue.
If you’re using a wired connection, start your computer in a clean boot state and perform the backup. Check if that fixes the issue.- Edited by Jeff RenModerator Monday, May 28, 2012 2:38 AM
