    Hi Forum

I have recently been installing Windows 8 to a few machines, after running Windows Intune Center, i have noticed that Endpoint Protection has not been installed.

It seems this is due to Windows Defender stopping this. Now I wonder if anyone can tell me, after disabling Windows Defender is there a way to re-install Endpoint protection?
I cannot reinstall Windows Intune unless I un-install (I dont want to have to uninstall), so what can i do to prompt Endpoint to install.

Anyone come across this that may be able to help?

    Thanks in advance
    NN

    Hi NN,

You are running into this issue because our current release does not support Windows 8.  When our next version is released it will include the support for using Windows Intune Endpoint Protection in Windows 8 without any modifications.  Currently though it's not supported and will not install.

    Thanks,

    Hi Jon L

Thanks for your response, I was hoping that was not going to be the answer after reading your Win8 Intune post.

    Thanks

    Hi Jon.

It pays to read the instructions!

I too have "accidentally" installed Intune on a Windows 8 system.

Is there a proscribed method of removal?

    Thanks!

    Hi Ed,

From the Admin Console, right click on the machine and hit retire.  After a short wait (20-40 minutes usually) the machine will remove the agents and no longer be enrolled.

    Thanks,

Ok, some clarification would be nice...

So, after the big hoopla with Windows 8, you are telling me there is no way to protect my installations of Windows 8 other than commercial 3rd party products? Is that correct? Even though I am a MS Partner there is no solution available from Microsoft?

I believe there is now a SCCM release (beta) that now protects Windows 8 with EndPoint protection. We do not use SCCM but wonder why other products (Intune Cloud, Server, etc.) seem to not offer same.

Puts a REAL damper on Windows 8 rollout. Actually stops it dead in its tracks! Maybe we should revisit Windows 8 rollout in a year (or two) or so until it is ready. Is that Microsoft's policy/expectations on this?

    Hi T Mackay,

The latest release of Windows Intune (available via Windowsintune.com) does support Windows 8 and installs our Windows Intune Endpoint Client.

This thread was originally created prior to the release, so at the time it was not supported.

    Thanks,

Does it mean we cannot use the Intune version from our portal? So we have to get the new client elsewhere, from Windowsintune.com site.

This site does NOT provide a download link, we have to sign for a trial. Perhaps we could open a trial, get the client, replace the certificate with ours. Would it work ?

    Thank you,

    Emmanuel

    Hi Emmanuel,

No, you cannot replace the certificate, that will not work.

You'll either need to wait for upgrades to the January 2013 release in February or setup a new trial account which will require re-enrolling clients.

    Thanks,
