Tracking a stolen device
-
Saturday, January 19, 2013 9:08 AMHi all
One of our portables has been stolen. Since a few days, the device is reporting again in Intune.
Intune tells us something more about the "Last User to Log on" and "The Network Adaptor Configurations" (a private IP Address, but not one of our company)
Unfortunaltly we don't have any tracking software installed on our laptops.
So how can we
- trace back that machine to a certain location via Intune
- push/configure tracking software (like prey) on that machine?
Thanks

Hi Dany,
If you package up tracking software you can make it a mandatory application for the machine. It will install within 24 hours.
Hope that helps,

I had a laptop stolen as well, I didn't use intune but our company started using Absolute or better know as LoJack. I have been buying Dell and they actually have a BIOS feature that is turned on by Absolute. So if the hard drive is removed and replaced, the BIOS will reinstall on the PC. Then when the laptop hits the NET it will call home to Absolute. It cost me 99 dollars for 3 years per machine. Great software, if PC stolen I can either wipe it or wait for it to call home.
We did recover our laptop, but it was luck have it, the young lady had it in the back of her car and was pulled over. The cop noticed the items and found out that she has stolen other items as well.
Keep good records of your PC, cops will need all that info.
This may not help you find your but it did show our company how valuable our data is.

Hi Jon
I used the information at http://support.preyproject.com/kb/installation/how-to-deploy-prey-in-batch-mode-windows
The bat-file had to be compiled to an exe-file.
Kind regards
Dany
